SD memory card.

:salam:

Might sound like a stupid question folks but are all SD memory cards compatible with any digital camera or do they have to be the same brand as the digital camera?

Re: SD memory card.

unless the camera specifically says you can only use this brand of memory card (like sony uses only sony's memory card) it can be used with any brand of digi cam.

I just have another questions attached to this question, are there better brands of SD cards than other? Like can i use one that Shopper Drug's Mart sells? (it's own brand)

Re: SD memory card.

Brand doesn't matter but there are some cameras (or other gadgets) that only support upto a certain size. I have a video camera that only supports upto 2 gb, and only the faster cards.

Re: SD memory card.

Sony cards are called Memory Sticks (as opposed to SD), which is a completely different design. So you can't use that in SD/MMC slots.

As for SD, you could pretty much use any card, but I prefer branded. If you are doing video on your digicam use the faster cards as you can get longer clips. With still pictures it doesn't matter, it just decreases the time it takes for the picture to get stored on the card.

Re: SD memory card.

^ (this was for Khumar B not for you Baba :) ) Sony doesn't use SD cards.
There are so many brands, there shouldn't be any preference either. I go by size and price higher and lower respectively.
#let uz chat#: No there are no compatibility issues only issue you may face would be size coz some camera support uptil certain size like you may not be able to use 4 or 8 GB in some cameras. I have SanDisk SD cards in camera and in my Treo.
