SD card data not showing

So I bought a SanDisk SD card for my galaxy S4, it worked great for about a day then useless.. I initially used it so camera images from phone will automatically save to SD card but it does not save anything giving an error message despite changing SD card to the primary storage. Apps installed also come up with the error of ‘couldn’t install on USB storage or SD card’

So I filled it with photos and mp3s for my phone and these were accessible only, not able for alteration - as in I couldnt move pics from one album to another, now even those have disappeared but are visible on PC :frowning: once before all the photos disappeared and when i connected to PC they were in some unreadable format in a ‘LOST.DIR’ so I recopied the images, these ones and mp3 are visible on PC now

Thanks for reading.. please help.. :frowning:

Re: SD card data not showing

Is your card locked? Make sure it's unlocked before you put it in your phone.

Re: SD card data not showing

First check what NaMaan says. If that doesnt work, Check the capacity of the SD card. If its larger than 16 GB check the format of the SD card. Sometimes, S4 has issues with SD card format as well. You might have to move everything from the SD card to the computer, format the SD card and copy everything back and then see if the phone reads it.

Joel khan - I did your method it has worked. However this is the 2nd time I am doing this, it eventually fell back to the original problem..

Naumaan - I don't know how to check if it's unlocked? Could you please help..

It's a micro SD 32gb card. .

Re: SD card data not showing

What brand is it and where did you buy it?

Sometimes, unbelievable prices for SD cards, especially the microSD ones, are actually that: UNBELIEVABLE! I don't know if it has stopped, though I think that it might still be going on, but you could get 32 gb / 16 gb cards from ebay really cheap compared to sandisk, sony, kingston branded ones but the original space only turned out to be 2gb. They hacked it somehow to show it was 16 gb or higher, but all the files would be corrupted if you went past the 2GB mark.

Re: SD card data not showing

To follow up on what Joel said, format the card in the S4 itself (once you have done the backup, ofcourse). Formatting on the computer and then moving may not be liked by the S4.

Re: SD card data not showing

Try formatting the card from your phone .

Re: SD card data not showing

It seems to be a bigger problem as usually the format fixes problems..

Re: SD card data not showing

If you already format the card using the PC the next time it happens try formatting it through the S4 itself as Tofibaba mentioned.

But before you do anything install this app on your phone and run a test on the SD card. (I used this app to check the write and read speeds on my S4)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ales.veluscek.sdtools&hl=en

Here is the description of the app:

With SD Tools you can check your microSD card information (Name, Date, MID, OEMID,…). You can check if your card is fake. (Check serial number and MID and OEMID).
You can also benchmark sd card writing and reading speeds.
You can also submit results and information to internet. In future there will be results. (As soon I got enough results).
Please write to me sreenshot if there are some problems.
Does not shows Card Info On Galaxy S, but you can check speed of external sd Card.
Please write to me, if you got suggestions, or problem report. I can not reply you to comment. And I can’t fix problems if I got no feedback. If SD Tools can not test external card, please let me know.
You can view results of over 150000 results sampled over time. Choose in menu (Results).
Known bugs:

  • Doesn’t show sd card info on some phones.
  • Does not work with some Motorola phones. (Don’t download)
Advanced path for: (path is case sensitive)
    Samsung Galaxy Note 2: /mnt/extSdCard
    Samsung Galaxy S 3: /mnt/extSdCard

Just read your comments today.

It was from ebay but reviews said it was reliable... SanDisk 32gb, ~ £16/17 I think..

I haven't tried formatting via the phone I'll give that a try :) Thank you JoelKhan, I'll let you know how it goes!
