Science & Quran

Write one tidbit that you know of where the Quran and Science agree.

To spice it up a bit, if you find that Science clashes with any one ayah in the Quran, feel free to post it as well, so there can be some debate.

The overlap of science/Quran can be factual or it can even be a speculative theory at this point.

I’ll go first:

The description of an embryo morphologically as described in the Quran. Its described a clot of blood.

Re: Science & Quran

The minute amount of light from the stars piercing through the space and the atmosphere and reaches us, hence showing the star as white dot in the sky, instead of a brightly lit up sky.

Re: Science & Quran

Oh actually that's not my favorite one. I like the sperm and egg description best. How the hell did they know its two cell combining that --> fertilization --> baby???

Of course no human knew. More proof (for me at least) that the Quran is divine revelation.

Re: Science & Quran

A Muslim mathematician (friend of a friend) told us once that he uses the verse which says that the solution to everything lies in the middle, to solve complex equations. That verse is used in a different context in the Qur'an, yet he claims that by taking the meaning literally, he is able to solve the most complex of equations very simply.

I found this very interesting. The guidance you get from the Qur'an depends on the sincerity of your interpretation :)

Re: Science & Quran

ahaaN.. now that is one good thread..

Re: Science & Quran

Re: Science & Quran

Re: Science & Quran

You are free to post it whenever you are ready :)

Re: Science & Quran

In the Qur’an, God summons humanity to investigate and reflect upon the heavens, the earth, plants, animals, the creation of man, and many other created things. Examining these, man comes to recognize the artistry of God’s creation in the world around him, and ultimately, to know his Creator, Who created the entire universe. This paradigm has been the most comprehensive motivation for scientific research throughout history, especially in the Islamic world.

Quran Leads the Way to Science

Re: Science & Quran

I reckon the thread http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=142283
is pretty much what you are looking for.

To spice things up, Lots of contradicion in Quran pointed out be friend basic_force. :k: I hope you will find them interesting.

Good old days when I used to have time for arguments :bummer:

Re: Science & Quran

I absolutely love the following verses:

"12. And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth).

  1. Thereafter We made him (the offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah (mixed drops of the male and female sexual discharge) (and lodged it) in a safe lodging (womb of the woman).

  2. Then We made the Nutfah into a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood), then We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then We brought it forth as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators." (Surah Muminoon - Ch. 23)

Re: Science & Quran

No, Code-Red, that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Backing up the big bang theory (which states everything was in one spot at the start) and the predominance of water in all living things.

*Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? *

Re: Science & Quran

^ Yep thats my fav one! Its talking about the Big Bang loud and clear. Funny thing is most people who believe in the evolutionary theory believe in the big bang.. but fail to believe in Creation.

...and we will replace their skin with a new one, so that they may feel the pain. (rough translation of the ayah)

This ayaah shows that the pain receptors are present in the skin.

Re: Science & Quran

I think it is important to keep a few things in mind while talking about Quran and Science:

1- The faith in Islam should not be dependent on the inspiration for Science. The faith comes first and then everything else.

2- There can be apparent contradictions between Quran and Science. In that case, a Muslim should believe that Science needs to do further research.

Here is some very good research work done by a Pakistani, Saad Amanullah Khan. http://www.xiber.com/quraan/. I haven’t read it in detail myself but it appears to be good information.

Re: Science & Quran

yeah as long as he uses verses to solve his mathematical, physics and biological problems and not to make xplosives:-)
