38 years is probably the maximum punishment for all the offenses combined, I doubt a first time offender would face such serious repercussions.

In England murderers get away with a lesser sentence and if your behaviour is good the years of imprisonment decrease

to put someone in jail for 38 years for such lousy crime(s)...only USA can do such gr8 justice. a solider will get 2-3 years (if) for killing an unarmed iraqi civilian. but 38 years for breaking into a school computer systems demands swift n harsh punishment. i wonder if prosecutors were thinking of death sentence for him.
You guys are forgetting, hes NOT sentenced yet, and he probably wont get 38 years, thats the MAXIMUM punishment for all the offenses he committed and usually a first time offender for such laws gets a slap on the wrist.
