School starts...again

I am posting this again after many months..

I am still not able to concentrate on studies! Can you please share your study techniques? How would you tackle assignments, quizes, excercises, exams? I would like it if you went into detail…any little info will help me inshAllah!

Re: School starts...again

Well that depends...what field are you studying? Are you still in college?

I recently started medical school after a 3 month summer break and boy was it difficult at first. But I guess the fact that I am paying hundred's of thousands of dollars for this crucial education motivates me somewhat lol

Also just keep in mind that education is an extremely important factor in this day and age. Your reputation, prestige and respect has alot to do with what you do and how much you make whether you like it or not. So kep your future in mind and take it one day at a time.

Good Luck!

Re: School starts...again

find a way to study that works for you. ive come to realise that coffee houses (second cup, cafe depot etc) are super productive for me. its just the right amount of noise, nothing to loud and not the silence of the library that makes me go to sleep!

and highlighters. the more underlining/notes in the margin of my coursepacks, the easier for me to study

Re: School starts...again

^^Yes that's important sabelia

but i think he wants more enthusiasm for studies as opposed to tatics on how to study a certain material

Re: School starts...again

hi, thank u for the advice desigirl786 and Sabeila

yes im looking for that motivation to study. i started accounting in uni this year, and i do like it but don't have that motivation to sit down and actually do the problems..

err, where do you get all that mooolah from?

Re: School starts...again

Lol its really not that expensive per year so my parents pay it all

Re: School starts...again

^ question then is where did they get the moolah from?

how abt study groups? i mean find a few friends and get a study room in the library....

or just get a few friends together and study..if u cant study all together cuz u no ull get distracted..sit in the same general area ..so at least sumone can poke u if u get sleepy :)

  • Make yourself a schedule of what you want to do on day to day basis.. and try following it.
  • Use your time wisely
  • Last minute revision before quizes/exams are waste of time.
  • Review what was taught by ur professor on regular basis.. and make notes of ur own
  • No looking at pretty girls around campus. This is the biggest distraction i have to face everyday i step in campus.
  • In accounting, take every problem very seriously... learn the concept and exercises would be like piece of cake for you.
  • Develop a business-type brain.. think like a businessman.
  • Extract the stuff which u think is important to remember when prof. is giving lecture.
  • Practice!.. nobody can learn accounting without practice. Keep 2/3 hours of your own spare time learning what prof taught you and make exercises for yourself and solve it yourself.
  • Always have something to eat when your're trying to digest 3/4 hours long lectures.. it helps in concentrating.
  • No laptops when you're in class!.. sigh msn is an addiction.. i wana sue msn for making me fail in taxation.
  • Never forget your deadlines.
  • Go to the accounting help center ( if u have one in ur campus ).. seeing so many people doing the same thing as u want to do, makes u more motivated, and focused.
  • Writing every single word that prof. utters is a waste of time. Reorganize in your mind what prof. said and write only that.
  • To avoid distractions in class, sit in the front row.. ( with no pretty girl ;) )..preferably alone.
  • Last but not the least... WHAT FrEaKin' excuse is it that your cant concentrate in your studies LOL..kidding.. if you have chosen accounting .. you must love it and the only way of showing love towards accounting is to do the problems ..and understanding the concept.

I've given some ridiculous tips above but trust me these were some mistakes i did in my first year.. which got a bit better when i started following what i said above.

PS: There were many ways to commit suicide ... i chose accounting !

Re: School starts...again

thanks for the tips. ^

i guess ill have to make a proper schedule now. uni is only 13 weeks, well now 10 weeks left! not much time.

thanks

Re: School starts...again

*Do you know what I do? Every few days or so, I calculate the income I'll be making in three years' time. Then I plan out what I will buy with all that khazana. And then I remind myself that I need to study for it, so I go back to studying. Always, always, always look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Seriously though, review your lectures AS SOON AS you are done with them. Review them the same day (or the day after), and then review them again the same week (This is where discipline is massively needed). By exam time, you will take those same notes out and they will look as familiar as the back of your hand to you, hence no stress. I haven't felt stress (or had to pull an all-nighter) for the past few years, simply because of this strategy (Things might change in professional school this year, but we shall see). Never let things pile up. NEVER.

Also, being super organized and being obsessive-compulsive about schoolwork (work in general) doesn't hurt either. I actually study more when I'm stressed out from personal issues, and that's also a big bonus. Just develop study habits man; whatever works for you, as long as you figure out motivation for doing it.*
