school friends

I have been noticing for quite some time, that most of munchkins friends are desi… (indian, sri lankans).

I just find it odd.

In daycare/kinder, she only had one desi kid in her class and that was in 3 yr kinder and then in preschool, but she was bestfriends with her. Instantly. She knew others kids from when she was younger.. but as the kids grew up, they started having their own lil groups.

But now, at school, its even more apparent.

The most ridiculous thing she came up with (after starting prep is):

“mama, all my friends are brown… just like me. We are India and Pakistan people…”

I was a little alarmed.

Even in afterschool care, all her older friends are indian/pakistani.

I’m not sure whether munchkin is being racist OR whether other gore kids are not associating with her OR she just feels comfortable with India Pakistan people (as she calls it)

are ur kids in the same boat?

p.s I have a feeling she goes around asking people “are u pakistan people or india people?” cus she always comes home and tells me who is who :smack:

My eldest had 3 really good friends when he was in international school… Funnily all three were Indians. However, he also had a few other nationalities like Brit, Brazilian, Dutch n German as well in his social circle. I always had the feeling that he enjoyed company of Indian boys most as he had a few things common with them like food, language etc n had some basic knowledge about the family system in each others home country.
I still enjoy recalling when hassaan came home soo excited, when he told me that his friends Nishant n Satyam also know what’s samosa :hehe:

Re: school friends

It has nothing to do with racism. LSmall children don't have any hatred toward 'different' people, unless they have been taught to hate.

In general people tend to relate more with their 'own kind'.

You will see this everywhere.
