Schizophrenia

Re: Schizophrenia

^i dont know if you'r trying to be funny, but it's really not.

unlike your friend, these people are really not in control of their lives. yea desis have trouble understanding

diwana- the meds can usually trigger extreme depression and make the person even more suicidal right?

^yo, be thankful for what you have and don’t say stuff that you might regret later on.

Anyways, its an interesting disorder but very very sad. I remember in Pak, once I saw a patient with my sister (i must have been 12-13 then) and he tried to kill his sister during one of his episodes. The poor family really wanted to keep him at home as he was their only son but that episode freaked them out and he ended up in the psych ward. He had the delusions of being Hazrat Ibrahim RA and getting the wahi. Allah forgive me

A guy friend of mine had an older brother with the paranoid type, my friend had to move out of his parent’s house at 16 because his brother was getting paranoid that my friend is trying to kill his daughter, who was only 4 :frowning:

I also remember this one guy I saw on a NY subway. If anyone knows the E train here, you know how hard it is to stand upright in that train. This guy was in the train the whole hour that I was there, standing on one foot, holding his arms still in an upright rigid position, his face turned all the way left with no expressions. He actually slammed himself hard on the door once when the train halted, got up without any hint of pain and got back back in the same position. That’s the only one I have seen of catatonic type.

BBQ asked if we came across such cases? I mentioned the person who i know has been faking it. Where is the funny part?

Yes. Depression may get worse or develop with meds used for schizophrenia.

Combination of drugs are commonly used.

It is a very delicate disease and like in any psychiatric illness, the treatment is based on symptoms only. One has to be very observant and cautious in monitoring symptoms.

Unfortunately follow up of people is poor and families get tired of convincing the patients to go to physician....or take the medications.

Some smart patients do self administer injectible drugs when they feel deterioration in their condition.
