A friend was telling us what happenned at her house in Defence, Karachi recently.
They have recently shifted from Lahore so they don’t know too many people in Karachi, and they asked the maid in their house to get them some young boy for general domestic help during the day.
She brought them a boy who had just moved to Karachi from Bhawalpur and his brother used to live here as well. His family was still in his village. The boy was in early twnties, seemed very sharp for his job and age, she said he had ‘very sharp eyes’ and one time when her computer got delivered after repairs he was telling her that he’s got a P-4 at his own home and she should have given it to him for repairing. He was a super efficient kind of servant and he used to wear tee-shirt and pants, not shalwaar kameez and he also had a cell phone.
He used to work at my friend’s house during the day and had the servant quarter to him at night but often at night he used to go somewhere.
Khayr, one day, he suddenly started getting a lot of phone calls on his cell phone and then he seemed a bit panicky and then he rushed out of the house without telling them. A couple minutes later there was a knock at their main gate and there were a couple of plainclothed men there, they said we’re from the intelligence police and we’re looking for your servant X.
They were like he just left. The intelligence police then searched around and they found him hiding in the bushes in a nearby marker. Then they came back home and said we need to take talashi of your house. My friend’s dad said you guys have search warrants, they said no, but her dad still allowed the search to avoid a raid. They found from a trunk under the bed of the servant quarter lots of latest automatic guns and a khanjar. From the cell phone they found out lots of contacts and he had some objectionable stuff stored there as well.
Then they took the boy under arrest and said we would have filmed these weapons to be shown on the khabarnama but since you look like izatdaar shareef log, to avoid your badnaami we wont.
Turned out later that the servant’s brother was a security guard in a private security company and it was with his collaboration that they had acquired those weapons. They were part of a big gang that used to commit dacoities in houses in Defence at night time and the next week they were planning to commit a dacoity in my friend’s house! The intelligence police was able to track them down because they were suspicious of the activities of that guy’s brother and they had started screening the calls at his workplace, once this boy had called his workplace from my friend’s house so they had traced the call and had kept him under supervision and finally nabbed him!
- A couple months after his release he called my friend’s house and she picked up the phone and very calmly and casually he’s like ‘baji mera thora saman para hay aap ke ghar wo mein kab aa k le loon’ Some people really have no shame huh! She was mad at him but didn’t say anything, she just said, the police took away all your stuff.*
