Scandalous!

I wanted to get your opinion of what type of womens attire is considered “over the line” in your mind. The reason I am talking about women in particular is because women have to deal with greater restrictions then men in terms of our culture, religion and also clothes play a role in turning up the sex appeal.

I come from a very liberal background and the women in my life have been quite liberal with their dressing, however I am a quite a conservative person with a live and let live attitude. I am curious to read what is a no-no for women from our religion, culture?

I have seen Pakistani, Muslim girls in clothes that would put many American girls to shame.

anything that shows off lot of skin. includes see throughs, sleeveless, belly showing, cleavage, etc.

short sleeves, and fitting clothes-i come froma a pretty conservative family so that’s abt as far as i can go. My shirts are tighter than my mother would like, but i hate looking like i’m wearing a thala, and sometimes it shorter than mom likes but its hard to find clothes that i think look good yet satisfy all my mothers demands. But she is fine with short sleeves as long as my underarms don’t show…i guess that’s about as scandalous as i go…

i think i agree with suroor as for what’s a :nono:

Only if American girls got info about Islam and culture of Pakistan.

I think it’s ok to go as far as wearing sleeveless and fitted stuff…no harm done…now overly-tight, low cleavage and skimpy clothes are a whole another matter.

:flower2:

I will only tell you what I dont like to see on myself. I try not to comment on what others wear. I think muslims would generally label me(if they had to) as moderate with liberal tendencies, or perhaps liberal with moderate tendencies.

As for the limits I have placed on myself, they include but are not limited to:

  1. No short sleeve shirts.
  2. Skirt must reach ankles.
  3. Pants are fine, but not tight ones.
  4. Low neck shirts are out.
  5. Loose fitting clothes(but not terribly baggy) are nice and comfortable.

Most of my friends probably follow these guidelines as well (but not all do).

Quran 24:31

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands their fathers their husbands' fathers their sons their husbands' sons their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or the slaves whom their right hands possess or male servants free of physical needs or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah that ye may attain Bliss.

hadeeth says women shud cover all their body except the hands, feet and face....
so anything thats out of this is not acceptable....
and yes tight and see-through garnments r definitely not in....

Right said fred....I was taught this in junior 5....I'm all with u

if he wanted to know what Islam has to say about this, he wud have asked in the religious forum..

when you follow islam to the letter let me know. I do my best to follow my religion. Suroor is right. he isn't asking what it says, its asking what we do. If you don't approve, too bad.

Right! This is a judgment free zone. I wanted to get an idea of what our dear guppies think about the issue. I mean if the issue is thoeretical or religious, then I know the answer: full burka+niqab…why would I ask your opinions :hehe:

I don’t want to be passing judgements here.

Chicks are hot man…stop worrying will ya..Pakistani, Saudi, kectuckyian…who gives a crap. I am sure they are not passing judgment at your choice of bad clothing…or are they Mr. Parachute pants!

Opinions galore - cool, fine....! I would love 2 see how some of da foreign desis react when their sistas r referred 2 as hot....coz of da tight clothes they wear....It makes me feel sick

Bro, no need to apologize...It's my fault I should of clarified. By religion and culture, I meant as a combination of the two because our Pakistani culture is heavily influenced by Islam although it contains many non-Islamic elements. I hope theres no hard feelings :)

There should be no hard feelings from either side mak, this is a forum 4 us pakis, lets discuss & sort things out instead of arguing & makin them worse....!
