Sayyid

If a male descendant of the Prophet Muhammad :saw: marries a non-descendent female are their children and future generations considered Sayyid?

And what if somebody’s mother belongs to that mix tribe I just mentioned above is he considered Sayyid and Aal-e-Rasool (salallaahu alayhe wa aalihi wassallam)? Please say yes.

Re: Sayyid

Why does it matter? the only thing that matters is your "Amal" and how you treat people.

Re: Sayyid

Dear Ranjhan,

The prophet p didnt have any male descendants. Sayyids, traditionally claim to be father to son descendants of Ali and his wife Fatimah, the daughter of the prophet p. However, you are right, a Sayyid man marrying a non sayyid woman will have children that are still considered Sayyid.

Re: Sayyid

1)yes.

2) how does the mother belong to the mixed tribe? if the mother is seyed and father isnt, then they kids arent considered syeds.

Re: Sayyid

OK, thanks. :k:

At least my mom is a Sayyidah then.

You’re right about that.

Maybe I should have said Ahle Bait instead, I know it doesn’t make anyone any better but it’s just nice to be related to the Prophet :saw: coz we love him so much.

Anyhow I’ll be a honorary Ahle Bait then.

Re: Sayyid

I believe you are right. However, at the very least, it could tell us if all these Sayyids are really descendants of a single ancestor and who are fakes lol. Also, genetic testing on Sayyids could shed light on the paternal ancestory of Ali and thus the prophet p. Did you know the dead sea scrolls and the bible suggest that the last prophet (after Jesus) would be a descendant of Alay Imran? Therefore, it would be interesting to me, to see if those who claim to be descendants of Alay Imran among the Bani Israel, share a recent common ancestor with the Sayyids. This is ofcourse just a personal interest of mine. An outcome of several years of studying the bible for signs of Mohammad in it.

Re: Sayyid

Kaleem it does matter a little. Amal are still important, but being a syed is an honour.

Re: Sayyid

Being a Muslim is more important.
You know the Qabeel, son of Sayyedna Adam ,son of Noah. Both were disbelievers. Were they not Sayyeds???

Re: Sayyid

well duh, if you arent a muslim then there is no such thing as syed for you.

Re: Sayyid

Sayyids are descendants of Ali and Fatima. Was Qabeel a descendant of Ali and Fatima? I think the answer becomes obvious.

More important doesnt mean everything else is unimportant. Does Allah care if you are a Pakistani? However, you seem very proud of your Pakistani roots. Is anyone here telling you that being a Muslim is more important than being a pakistani so dont talk about being a Pakistani?

Re: Sayyid

They must have had a lot of offsprings of all ethnicities and races, because anywhere in the world where you find shias, be the biharis, farsis, khochis and etc., they all claim decendance from Ali/Fatima…

Re: Sayyid

Kaleem,
Drop it man…you are rationalizing with somebody who goes out of his way to prove the genetic makeup of pathans and their unique caucasiod physical traits and features, and how they are supposed to be superior and purer to all other races and, a la the Aaryan-Germanaic race, though conveniently forgetting about Pathans such as Jahengir Khan and his father Roshan khan, hardly the paragon of caucasiod specimen…

Your knowledge is very short. Sayyed means decendents of Prophet. Sayyedah Fatima was only decendent whose decendents continued. Sayyedna Noah and Sayyedna Adam were Prophets and their decendents are Sayyeds. And we are decendents of Sayyedna Adam (AS).

Got it?

About the question, Why I am proud of being Pakistani? there is the simplest answer......
Pakistan was created for Islam. And it is also called Fort of Islam. Thats why I love my country.

About races, tribes and Sayyed type thing, Allah said...........
In Surah Al-Hujraat, Chapter no. 49. Verse no. 13.
O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).

Re: Sayyid

lol. Which is why I suggested we perform a y chromosome study on them. It would end the debate and determine if they have a single common ancestor or not. It could shed some light on the ancestors of the prophet p and Ali too.

Re: Sayyid

Thanks for your opinion. My understanding is that Sayyid in arabic broadly means lord or sir. In the Islamic world, it is used narrowly, for the descendants of Ali and Fatima.

Re: Sayyid

^ Hmm bob didnot you see the verse of Holy Quran which I quoted?
Read it carefully. And please respect Sayyedna Ali and Sayyedah Fatimah. You wrote their names like your friends, cousins or siblings. (Ali and Fatima).

Sayyedna Ali is not decendent of Prophet OK. He was his son in law. So only Sayyedah Fatima is decendent of prophet and her decendents will be called Sayyeds. Sayyedna Ali married so many women after death of Sayyedah Fatima. So those will not be called Sayyeds. But I already said, being a muslim is more important.

Re: Sayyid

Actually, I had missed that post. Thanks for calling it to my attention. It was a good one.

There is no disrespect as the post is in english. Even in urdu, Allah can be addressed as tu without meaning disrespect. I respect them not worship them.

Re: Sayyid

Ranjhan!

If ur mother is a Sayyidah then this in itself is an honour.

But should be proud of ur own ancestory as well and use ur own family name.

100% right. Did I tell you to whom family I belong. Hmm I didnot, because I want to show and proove my own ability. Well I belong to Allama Iqbal's family. He was my grandfather, my grandmother's cousin.

But I am not proud of it because it does not mean if I belong to his family then I have a special ticket to Jannah. Or I am as intelegent as he was.
Right?
