Sayings...

I got this in my mail…is it ALL true?..like to hear your opinion…:)…some of them I heard before while some are new to me…:)…are they from the hadith?

"Rasulullah S.A.W. said "Jannat lies under the feet of

your mother"

Rasulullah S.A.W. said "if you read the kalima with conviction just

once…Jannah becomes upon you

Rasulullah S.A.W. said "a women who reveals her body or even wears

tight fitting clothes while dressing…wont come within 500 years

of the smell of Jannah

Rasulullah S.A.W. said "the dust which settles on a man while he is

out in the path of Allah…not only the fire, but the smoke of

Jahannam is haraam for those parts of the body.

Rasulullah S.A.W. said "I only curse 3 types of people

1.those people who do not look after their parents when they

are in old age.

2.those people who do not take full advantage of the blessed

month of Ramadhan.

3.those people who don not say Salallahu-Alayhi-Wasallam

when my name is mentioned.

Rasulullah S.A.W said "an intelligent person is one who is

constantly thinking about and preparing for death"

Rasulullah S.A.W. said "It is better for a man that a steel nail be

driven through the centre of his head…rather than if he touches

the palm of a strange women"

This one I have heard all my life. I've heard some of the other ones, but most are new to me.

Most of them seems to be valid

have heard em all, and i think they r all true, except the last one....
i've heard a different narration for it....

it's all about opinion.. in my opinion none of them are true.

Well little human it's cuz all these 'sayings' are considered 'true' just on the basis of some earlier people's 'opinions'. I am at the liberty to exercise my judgement and not accept them just like they were at a liberty to declare them true.

There's a marked difference between opinion and qualified opinion!

welcome Iqbal.. can u define 'qualified'??

'qualified' again is a matter of 'opinion' :)

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. But a scientist's opinion of another scientist's work is more credible than the unqualified opinion of a layperson. Or is that just stating the obvious?

Iqbal

Collecting unwritten and unverified accounts and declaring them "historically accurate" and/or "divinely truthful" or otherwise based on other unverified accounts is NOT a science... it employs a circular logic and is certainly a matter of opinion.. not empirical certainty.

Had it been a science, the results would be repeatable and every subsequent 'collection' would have arrived at the same set of narrations... which is obviously not the case here.

and u suggest that every person living at the time of the prophet heard each an every word he said, and different people did not meet him at different places and hear different words from him????

Thanks for the information

I suggest nothing of the sort..

All I'm saying is that it's a matter of opinion when you choose to accept narrations as true or false. None of the compilers were alive to witness the 'character' of people they deem 'every truthful' and accept whatever is attributed to them.. not to mention being careless in passing along single witness reports; seems quite contrary to the spirit of islam which stresses on being careful about information, writing things down and having witnesses.

And you can prove the Qur'an by all these criteria? Oh, i forgot, you've been asked that before and promptly jumped ship. Never mind.

I see you've back peddled on this one already.

what has the Qur'an to do with this discussion?? the last time it was brought up I had provided the same response.. you cannot prove hadith true by pointing to any gaps in the collection of qur'an.

I accept Qur'an as a matter of faith, not science.... there is no hard evidence with me to prove it's 'divine' nature. I would appreciate if hadith believes should start accepting them as an 'opinion' of early scholars too and not divine writ.

how come?? you are also aware that Bukahris and Muslims collections do not match.

It does show, and i have mentioned this before, that you aren't prepared to submit your own beliefs to the very same criteria by which you want to test the faith of others. {Woe to those that deal in fraud. Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand it full. But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due.} (83:1-3)

[/quote]

That's it? That's your defence? In other words, you admit that the Qur'an is also nothing more than "an opinion of early scholars". You can't prove the Qur'an just as you say others can't prove hadith. How wonderful. Have you always disregarded the idiom: "People who live in glass houses should not throw stones"?

armughal already partially addressed this, after which you promptly back peddled.

And success is from Allah.

But this quote?

Does it belong with the others?

3.those people who don not say Salallahu-Alayhi-Wasallam
when my name is mentioned.

Said by Rasulullah S.A.W?

What does it mean?

^
these sayings r quoted from different narrators and r words of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh)....

Salallahu-Alayhi-Wasallam is arabic for "peace and blessings be upon him"....
whenever a muslim mentions the prophet, he is obliged to add this prayer....

also the same obligation is put down in Quran....
Quran 33:56
Lo! Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O ye who believe! Ask blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation.
