Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
I think Jesus or Jeez should not be used since it is used as someone saying Oh God.
Jesus(as) is deemed as God in Christianity and perhaps that is why this term was used in the first place. these are just my thoughts
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
^but what if someone just says it in conformity with the use of the language...but not with the intention/thought of jesus as God.....??
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
then it might be same as eating pork in conformity with the eating habits of the majority/society .... but not with the intention/thought of eating something which is forbidden.

hmm.....interesting analogy......
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
Peace NomiCA
We should not even say Oh God in statements of despair as that translates to hopelessness in the ways of Allah (SWT) ... Muslims are to trust Him and say "Alhumdulillah". To say Jesus in that context is more wrong ...
We should take from a people that what is good and reject what traits they have that are evil.
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
^so you saying its evil to say jesus??
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
Its not a big deal. You're judged based on your intentions.
Jesus(AS) is soon going to be a prophet in Islam right? so i mean... why not? just dont consider him God when saying it but rather just a prophet , or rather a soon to be an 'islamic' prophet .. and ure all set :P
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
^ yes Jesus AS is prophet but isn't it better to say Ya Allah or as pyash bhai said Allhumdulilah .
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
here, we are talking about having conversations in english with possibly english people. We need to find the common words that both , the speaker and the listener understands. Jesus or Jeez seems to be the common word that both wont have problem saying. One taking it as their lord, another taking it as their islamic prophet.
And no, we dont use Alhumdulillah instead of Oh God! or Jesus! or Jeeez!!, as these words expresses a different sort of expression which alhumdulillah doesnt. Sayin Alhumdulillah is almost equivalent to the expression of Thank God.

Save the double tongues for those who don't know your background ... LOL ... Not soon to be prophet - he is a prophet, was a prophet then and will be a great leader in times to come with prophetic title yet without the prophet duties.
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
Just as if you were to say oh my god, saying oh jesus is blasphemy and better to be avoided me thinks.

But we can say Astaghfirulah or Lahola wala quwat ilah bilahe..
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
^ lol, why bring Islamic terms when having conversation in english and that too with an english person? Whats the big deal about saying Oh God ?
like psyah said, it is OK to take the good traits of ppl and reject the evil ones.

Peace to you too psyah,
I alhumdulillah have no double tongues. I try my utmost best to practice islam and preach it to others. Dont judge me based on my beliefs. We've have many debates about various topics and I still hold that beliefs. But here, i did not bring anything related to that but merely telling you how it shud not be a big deal as Jesus (AS) will still be a prophet in islam. My whole reply was to make the thread starter understand that it shouldnt be a big deal if ure intentions are pure.
You my friend are even more confused then i last seen you as. A prophet , will be a prophet but without prophetic duties... ok sir.. lets not get in to that..
To me, using the word Jesus or Jeez should not bother Muslims when talking to someone who knows no other language than english. You're welcome to disagree with me but dont be so judgmental.
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
lolz.
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
I do not say things like Oh God, or Jesus. I think it's taking the name of the Father in vain. I do use OMG, but for me the "g" stands for goodness. I guess it really depends on the person. A devout Christian, from what I have seen, would not take the words God or Jesus out of context, which is when speaking the Word.
Re: Saying Jesus during conversations in english
I don't see anything wrong with saying Jesus to someone who is not a muslim or speak english - otherwise, all muslims who speak english know Isa (as).
I am really guilty of saying jeez, even though my intention isn't to say Jesus it is wrong. It's the way we sometimes curse and though we may not think about literal meaning for them, it doesn't change the fact that it's a bad word
