The British politician of Pakistani origin wrote on her twitter feed that she had tendered her resignation.

She had previously been the chairperson of the Conservative Party and was appointed as the first female Muslim cabinet member in 2010.

Good woman.

Finally. A Tory with a spine!

A very brave and commendable step indeed. Hopefully, more MPs will take a stance.

Brave Woman

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

Hats off to her. The worst and most stupid reaction to her resignation came from that idiot George Osborne.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

Who is he and what did he say ?

Good for her. The tories have ruined this country domestically and internationally. David Camerons days are numbered.

Now do something about the Israeli arms deal!!

He is a Tory MP and chancellor of the exchequer.

George Osborne: Baroness Warsi resignation over Gaza ‘disappointing and unnecessary’ - Telegraph

It is good that shes standing up for what she thinks is right, but maybe she could’ve made a real difference by staying on and really fighting for the cause.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

Frankly I doubt it. The splash her resignation made, makes others sit up and take note of the issue.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

If you are not the type to fight the system from within (not everyone can), it’s better to separate with a bang. What did Jack Straw achieve from remaining in the system? Warsi’s resignation had opened up a whole new discourse on Israel, you now have the next potential Prime Minister of the country speaking on the issue, openly praising her and showing support to her cause. And that’s a huge breakthrough! She knew her powers and influence within the Tory party was limited, but her resignation alone has effectively pushed Gaza one step closer to becoming a parliamentary debate. It’s currently one of the mainstream political issues and most discussed topic in the country raising much needed awareness.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

What is a “Tory”, and why are the members called Tories?

What she did is commendable even if it’s purely political on her part. Better to leave a gathering that berates than to stay with it in hopes of being heard.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

The Conservatives Party grew out of the Tory Party of 18th Century. Both words are interchangeable, and th Conservatives don’t mind being called Tories.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

does her ‘resignation’ really mean resignation? or, is she gonna comeback through the back door once things subside?

btw, i’ve heard that Deputy Prime Minister also resigned from his portfolio. is it true?

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

Couldnt have said it any better

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

Takes guts

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

It was pointless and dumb. Her resigning is not gonna change anything and next week she’ll be forgotten news (she barely made the news with this anyway).

She should have stayed and tried to make a impact from within as she’s already done in the past. Now she’s thrown away her political career for nothng, as if conservatives are responsible for what’s happening in gaza. Psshhh.

You mean Nick Clegg? No he’s still there, but he’s definitely another prominent voice of reason in this morally bankrupt Tory government. He’s showing great boldness and courage by pushing for direct talks between Hamas and Israel. He wrote a surprisingly very well balanced and in fact a brilliant article for Guardian where he clearly recognised the plight of Palestinians and utter futility, barbarity and criminal disproportionality of Israeli actions. I suggest everyone to give it a read:

Israel must open talks with Hamas | Nick Clegg | Comment is free | The Guardian.

There are dozens of high profile British politicians are speaking up on this issue and demanding drastic change in British policies in regards to Israel (for example imposing arms embargo on Israel). We have elections next year and for big political leaders like Clegg and Miliband to openly criticise Israel’s high-tech savagery on large dispossessed and besieged population, present a case for Palestinians, advocate long term political solution and peace is so surreal. Those who grew up in this country and grew up watching this genocide take place every other year can tell you that seeing such reaction is on this issue is so refreshing. Even Warsi’s resignation was designed to read like a chargesheet against this gutless government. The way some of the British politicians and journalists are speaking out on Gaza just for the sake of humanity and justice puts some of the self hating Muslims to shame, who get so hurt and offended and start peddling their own prejudice and insecurities when they see fellow Muslims showing concerns for the Palestinians. Instead of hearing their views I’d rather prefer that these people remain silent on this issue.

In regards to your second question, British politics is very flexible in many aspects. Especially in terms of party switiching (or as we call it ‘crossing the floor’ here) prominently moving positions on political specturm within party (i.e Tony Benn moved to the left wing of the Labour party later in his While party switching or crossing the floor is one of the oldest tradition in British politics, resignation over principles is a very rare thing to do. Warsi hasn’t left the Conservative party, and chances are she’ll come back once Cameron steps down. Or she’ll switch parties.

Re: Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza (this is called having GUTS)

I actually am annoyed by him mentioning the Hamas rockets terrorizing Israeli citizens, while not clearly stating the savage carnage and massacre of 2000 Palestinian civilians by the Zionist Nazis’ real terrorism. Right off the bat that is not balanced. But maybe it’s a small start in the right direction in countries where blind Israeli support is a compulsion.
