anannaas

kahte haiN [french ananas]...hai na maze kii baat...aur bhii bahooot se lafz french zabaan se urdu meN aaye, which is quite strange as well coz there was no french influence in pre-partitioned india**

these modern equipments were not available when languages evolved. there is an organization called "anjuman-e-taraqqii-e-urdu" in India which tries to translate new words but they lack resources so they are wayy behind.

The beauty of urdu language is that it can adopt words from any language or urdunize a foreign word. so, due to english influence in india/pak, no one bothers to translate a already understood word like train, signal, station, television etc.

the funny thing is when Governmental agencies try to translate a very common word, it becomes very funny in itself. for instance:

railway station = bhak bhak aDDa
mosquito net = bhun bhun chiraiya Dibba
railway electric signal = rail aavaa gawan vidyut soochak yantr

hehe**

Re: Say English Word , the other will say Urdu Word for it

again these things are unknown to indian masses...i don't think they have translated it yet. wallpaper will be used by upper middle class people and they know wallpaper better than any other word in urdu.

but, if i were to translate it i wud call it:

kaaGhaz-e-deevaar**
