Did you ladies do “save the dates”? How far in advance? Also, should we just list the wedding date or include the mehndi/walima one, as well? I want to make sure that everyone knows to keep those days open BUT I don’t plan on inviting every single person invited to the wedding to the mehndi/walima…I’ve only seen gora people save the dates so no clue as to how desis do it.
Re: Save the Dates
didnt do save the date. my card had two inserts (one for henna/walima) that we included or excluded … depending on who was invited to what specific event(s).
honestly speaking … unless the card/invite is from a v close/cherished friend/family … i dont actually save the card or the save-the-date (o matter how nice/fancy they are) ![]()
when i get an invite … any invite … i check my e-calendar and if im attending it goes in that calendar.
save a tree an all that jazz u know ![]()
Re: Save the Dates
Waste of money and paper IMO. The people you really want to come, tell them verbally, or through whatsapp about what dates you've decided to hold the wedding. And then send a proper invite 2-3 months before hand. Keep it simple.
Re: Save the Dates
You can always do an e-save the date. My gori coworker did the same thing. She sent everyone an email and there was a cute graphic attached with her and her fiance's photo attached with some text on it in a creative way. I am sure there are websites that help you design these. I myself am so confused as to what to do about Save The Dates. I am thinking to do an electronic one too for just my friends. What makes it so complicated is that my mom hasnt even announced to our family friends yet that I am engaged because of nazar etc. She wants to wait longer til telling everyone, but I know my friends' social calendars will fill up in the meantime. Its just a cluster...you know what. Uff - desi weddings + western culture sometimes make for the awkwardest situations lol. I guess I should be asking my bridesmaids to be in my wedding officially now....holy crap I just gave myself so much anxiety thinking abt how much I needed to have done already. Haha.
Re: Save the Dates
Yeah, I honestly throw most save the dates away BUT a lot of our close friends are from out of town and since my wedding is the weekend before Ramadan there’s been 4-5 weddings on the same day that I’ve already heard about. I’m using paperlesspost.com to make one and it’s almost like an evite except much nicer and they’re free. And it gives you the option of adding the date to your iphone Calender/google calender/etc. I just didn’t know if I should include all the dates (mehndi, shaadi, walima) on it or just have the shaadi day and people can find out about the mehndi/walima when official invites come out. We’re getting those from Pakistan and they won’t be here until like a month or two before the wedding, tops.
Re: Save the Dates
A friend of mine did tihs, she had refrigerator magnets printed with the save the date...very cute. It only shows hte date of the wedding day itself, the mehndi and valima was told by word of mouth.
Re: Save the Dates
I would put wedding day only. Then either call or email those separately that will be invited to those. Or you can do multiple Save The Dates lol. I mean our desi weddings ARE known to be a multi day affair so multiple save the dates only make sense!

Yep, I think that's what we're going to end up doing!
