Letter published in Daily Times last month:

Precious Indus Dolphin

Sir: It is sad to read about the declining numbers of the Indus Dolphin (Daily Times, September 20). The Indus Dolphin is a unique and wonderful species of river dolphins. Of the three species of river dolphins in the entire world, one is already extinct. A number of steps need to be taken, both in the interest of preserving the dolphin and for human welfare. It is important to end the dumping of raw sewage and industrial/agricultural waste into the river. It may also be necessary to build bypasses to allow the dolphins to travel freely across barrages. Restoring the flow of the Indus to the sea will not only help the dolphin, it will help the pallo (another unique species of fish) survive and begin the process of regenerating the mangrove forests, which protect coastal communities against flooding.

On a corrective note, the dolphin is referred to as a fish in the story published in your paper. It is not a fish but a mammal, which needs air to breathe.
