Re: Saudia seeks Pakistan help for normalizing ties with Iran
Yes Pakistan should meditate between the two while these two countries fight their proxy wars within Pakistan.
How convenient.
Re: Saudia seeks Pakistan help for normalizing ties with Iran
^^^ Its funny that it wasn't long ago when Saudis were urging Obama to attack Iran. When Mr. Obama refused, they tried to plot an attack on Iran with help of Israel & now even that seems like it wont work. Saudi Arabia is the cancer in Islamic world...from exporting their harsh brand of Islam to funding terrorists...Saudis are responsible for killing more Muslims in last 30 years than west.
Re: Saudia seeks Pakistan help for normalizing ties with Iran
I am not sure if Saudis really want to have good relations with Iran.
But if true, Saudis will find Iranians a willing partner. Currently they are improving ties not just with America but also with Gulf countries like UAE and others.
Iran is surrounded with countries skeptical of its intentions. So I think Normal ties with the countries of region is in the interest of Iran. Saudis however would like the status quo, where all regional countries along with international players like America stay on Iran's tail. It is not just good religion-wise but also financially. Tension in region and less Iran oil in market mean better oil prices, which is what Saudi economy relies on.
Re: Saudia seeks Pakistan help for normalizing ties with Iran
On the flip side, higher oil prices also fund the iranian clergy who fund the quds force and hezbollah. Right now, lower oil prices and sanctions are doing the trick.
Re: Saudia seeks Pakistan help for normalizing ties with Iran
You guys don't get it. They wanted to come up with something for the presser after the meet. Could not have mentioned Musharraf in front of press eh? ;)

If by 'doing the trick' means resolution of nuclear problem then it would mean higher oil prices and as per you 'more funds to the Iranian clergy who fund the Quds force and Hezbollah'. Which is obviously not what you want.
So I am not sure what exactly you are getting to in the above post.
Otherwise, with all the tricks being played, Iranians still don't seem to be ready to throw clergy out of government.
Re: Saudia seeks Pakistan help for normalizing ties with Iran
I don't think Pakistan is in a position of doing such work, after disaster of IPL project, where Iran had spent billions of dollars to commit its side of agreement.

I was replying to your assertion that somehow only Saudis benefit from high oil price. Iraq war not only flipped Iraq to iran's circle of friends, but the increased oil prices also benefitted Iran. It seems that you are soft on the sectarian nature of Iran.
