Yup, I lived there until late 2000 and still am in touch with the place.
Fact is that things are worse in the smaller cities and towns. In larger metropolitan areas like Riyadh and Jeddah, they are (somewhat) better. Anyway, while the Arabs on the whole are conservative and backwards, the ones in Saudi Arab are the worse of the bunch. As was said in the movie Black Gold:
Being a poor Arab is like being a waiter at banquet of the world.
And that has got to do with the fact that these people had lost their way for centuries, it is only their oil (and gas) resources that gets people talking about them. And in case of Saudi Arabia, the Holy Places. If this was not the case, we’d probably hear about them in the news, as much as we hear about countries like Mongolia and Madagascar.

Well the fix would be to have recourse to justice not to ban women from driving.
Anyway men end up as sheikh’s sex slaves too, here read this…
