Africa famine to last into 2004, BBC, 7 January 2003
The famine affecting 14 million people across southern Africa is likely to last at least another year, the United Nations food agency has warned.

Nadia_H: :k:.
I fail to see the correlation. His wealth is personal-Africa's poverty is nothing to do with him.
They got money for buying high priced cars, but can't feed the poor.
But why should HE feed THEM-you never raise a topic or an issue of extravagance when Bill Gates displays his wealth.

With the utmost respect - that's the last thing it is.
You think me, of all people, who is obsessed about Iraq 24/7, is anti-Arab? Do you think the dozens of us on this Forum who oppose a war against Iraq - an Arab country - are anti-Arab? Please.
It's hard enough to discuss anything in this Forum without being erroneously accused of one label or another; please don't change the topic to one that is more controversial and touchy. We have one Arab member on this Forum, i have caused enuf grief in this Forum; let's not cause more hurt than we have to.
Ok sorry
:k: :D
Apart from anything else, Bill Gates earned his money. Saudi princes just happened to be sitting on top of a large oil well - and there's not much evidence they've used their wealth to the advantage of their nation - which is after all the purpose of leading a nation.
^ Be careful in pointing that out. Last time I mentioned that topic, I got hate mail (PMs) from Arab-loving Guppies. ![]()
Not from me, and I love the Arabs more then anyone else here. Probably. :D
See i dont resort to annoying ppl to get my point across.
Even according to Forbes.com 2002 richlist, the richest of ALL the Arab princes made his money in stocks and shares ect. Prince Talal is earning his wealth, and the magazine no longer ranks Royals as it is hardto tell what is theirs and what is the states.
Also if you love Southern Africans so much, then get this man to help them-he's a billionaire, he's from the region and he's not an Aran so you dont have to dislike him. :(

Actually, his seed capital (i.e. what he used to get started with) came from his family's wealth, not his own efforts. Then of course he grew it and rode the stock market, for which he deserves credit.

Prince Al Waleed started his investment with the money he got from his family.
Not only that but he used Saudi Arabia's popular method of bringing CitiGroup to KSA. Because he was a prince he brought CitiGroup to KSA with ease. He then invested tremendously in it. The company then sky rocketed. If you do some research you will know most of his net worth has come from his investment in CitiGroup. His other investments such as PrinceLine, Daewoo and Planet Hollywood (amidst many) have failed.
This shows that his wealth is due to his royal status. Not his hard work.

That is not one person. That is a family. Their dad , Harry Oppenheimer started the company in 1957 and poured his sweat into it. He worked hard for it.
Im not against SOUTH AFRICAN's or ARABS. Im just against the corrupt royalty.
You'd give your left arm to be in the Arab royalty, or hang with them, or chill with them or live their lifestyle. This is a simple case of jealously at something they have, you secretly want, and canot have.
