Interesting article from the Guardian - and interesting spin on how privately-owned media is vulnerable to shareholder influence. In this case, it was a positive influence because through buying large parts of Fox this Prince was able to change Fox coverage within 30 minutes.

But imagine how many other news outlets are likely to be corrupted by shareholder interests.

Government funding with editorial freedom & independence is the key to healthy media. Media should be assured of receiving government funding at the same time as being free to criticse and undermine the goverment if needed…

On one hand you say that the outlets are ‘likely’ to be corrupted by shareholder interests, what guarantee would ‘govt funding’ have on freedom? In my opinion, it’d be just as private funding influence.

I think there shouldn’t be “major” stakeholder in media outlets … no one should allow to own more than 5% of the shares.
