Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal announced on Tuesday that the kingdom had proposed a peace plan to the United States and Iraq and was awaiting a reponse.
“We have made the proposal and we are waiting for a positive response. We have not been rebuffed,” Prince Saud told a press conference in the Saudi capital.
The prince, who was reported to have had a conversation by telephone on Monday with US Secretary of State Colin Powell, gave no details of the peace plan.
Despite the close ties between Washington and Riyadh, the United States has come under severe criticism in Saudi Arabia for launching the war against Iraq and the Saudis have vowed they will not take part in the war “under any circumstances”.
The proposal comes after Prince Saud’s talks earlier Tuesday in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak following an Arab foreign ministers’ meeting which demanded the “immediate and unconditional withdrawal” of British and US troops from Iraq.
It would have helped if somewhere in this whole article they could have mentioned the gist of the "Saudi Peace Plan". Its hard to discuss anything without anything.

The House of Saud fear for their own selves when looking at the fumings of the public and their vehemently anti-war on Iraq stand. The Saud's worst nightmare is Osma's dream.
Knowing their previous lame attempts, I suspect the peace plan consists of the UAE version of giving immunity to Saddam and his family, asking him to leave Iraq with promise of immunity from prosecution for war crimes and to hand over the rule of Iraq to the UN. This will have to include the immediate withdrawal of US/UK forces from Iraq.

Agreed. Wonder what was in the plan? Wonder why they didn't propose it months ago? Or did they?
Hey let them try, yeah its not in their interest to have the war, so let them act in their own interest. Especially if their plan is a win-win situation for everyone else involved there is no harm.
but we dont know the specifics of the plan or anything. kher continue saudi bashing if you will. I am not a fan of the regime but do think this is a good thing, but probably nto going to go anywhere.
Ive lived in Saudi Arabia for well over 16 years. I know the kind of people they are.. Allah has given them a lot but not much self confidence. They are heavily dependednt on USA.. When i was 18 i went to a high security Live Bombing Air show at the Khobar Airbase with my father who has security clearence. I was impressed by the bombing runs and all that. Later I was told that the pilots were Americans.. haha.. And Prince Sultan was cherring for ???? LOL... Enough said.. haha You make you own conclusions.
RIYADH (AFP) — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al Faisal issued a clarification Wednesday that a proposal for Baghdad and Washington to stop the war contained “general ideas” rather than a peace initiative. “What the kingdom had proposed are general ideas and not an initiative. The kingdom had stressed on these ideas on many occasions,” said the Saudi chief diplomat in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency. The proposal stresses “the need for an immediate halt of the war, resolving the unfortunate international divisions about how to deal with Iraqi affairs, and the need to return to peaceful efforts,” the statement said. Prince Saud reiterated that the crisis must be resolved within the “legitimate framework of the United Nations to safeguard Iraq’s national security and its civil institutions,” from destruction. “These ideas are offered for both sides,” Prince Saud said. He told a press conference Tuesday that the kingdom had presented a peace plan to the United States and Iraq, and appealed to both sides to stop military action immediately. “We have made the proposal and we are waiting for a positive response. We have not been rebuffed,” he said. Both Baghdad and Washington denied they had received a Saudi proposal.

Was an air show. For entertainment!
I don't think Saudia Arabia is any more dependent on the U.S. as U.S. is dependent on Saudia Arabia.
And selfconfidence my foot! Why not?
Majority of Mideast people I have met are well educated and way smarter than I could ever dream of being. And the goals!
Why did Cornell University build a medical school in Bahrain?
Because majority of people desiring and smart enough to become doctors are of your culture.
In America, majority of the times I have been to emergency room its people of Arab and Indian descent who treat the wounded.
The Saudi Peace plan is equal to the US peace plan for the middel east. The plans pop up when ever US wants to do some dirty job in ME and Saudis come up with these plan to show they are trying to clean up the mess (or save arses) in ME.
