KARACHI: A Saudi diplomat was shot dead in a drive-by shooting near the consulate in Karachi on Monday, the second attack on Saudi interests in Pakistan’s biggest city in less than a week, officials said.
An official from the media section of the Saudi embassy identified the man as a Saudi diplomat. Another official from the embassy earlier identified him as a security official working for the consulate in Karachi.
Pakistani police in Karachi told AFP that the Saudi had been driving in a vehicle with diplomatic plates when two motorcycle riders opened fire at a crossroads in the city’s upmarket Defence neighbourhood.
“The consulate employee died of multiple bullet wounds on the spot,” said Fayaaz Leghari, the police chief of southern province Sindh, of which Karachi is the capital.
“The attackers fled on the motorbike,” he added.
Provincial home ministry official Sharfuddin Memon identified the dead man as a junior officer at the consulate.
“We are investigating if it was linked to the Abbottabad operation or was an isolated incident,” he said in reference to the killing by US Navy SEALs of the Saudi-born al-Qaeda mastermind in the garrison city of Abbottabad on May 2.
Last Wednesday, drive-by assailants threw two grenades at the consulate in Karachi in what officials said could have been reaction to bin Laden’s death.
he was just a junior officials, the govt won't wake up to condemn the act until some high profile is killed...wait even abotabad incident could wake the govt... they get too tired while calculating money they have made from Pakistan
I was just watching Naseem Zahra's program on Dunya News and in the program Haroon ur Rashid was saying that some intelligence people believe that the past two bombs have not been done by Taleban but by our allies, so that Pakistan could start operation in NWA but the army would not conduct any operation there
I was just watching Naseem Zahra's program on Dunya News and in the program Haroon ur Rashid was saying that some intelligence people believe that the past two bombs have not been done by Taleban but by our allies,
Haroon Rashid must have his own intelligence agencies to make such tall claims.
Such Taliban apologists are every where in Pakistan.
Well, TTP has already claimed the responsibility so ppl should better stop turning it into another conspiracy theory. Its a straight forward fact that Pakistani talibans are doing it and first and foremost thing that we should do is to STOP having soft corners for them. They are the enemy of everyone and we've to get rid of them with absolute ZERO tolerance.
It does make a person bounce off bullets just like the holy water did for african tribals who ran towards the british gun encampments in the nineteenth century.

Haroon Rashid is an idiot.
Why then are the Taliban taking credit?
Whats more believable, that the US and Indians are training suicide bombers, or the people who admit they sent suicide bombers to attack and kill people, actually did send the bombers?
The stupidity of some people in Pakistan's media is mind boggling. And it dangerous aswell, because these media people mislead people into a sense of complacency, which allows the Taliban an atmosphere in which they can operate unmolested.
I may be wrong but i think the killing might have been orchestrated by Iranian proxies in Pakistan. The modus ope***** is not what Taleban employ, drive by shootings are not associated with Taleban. And remember initial reports said that Taleban denied responsibility.
The police believe the primary motive was sectarian tension between Islam’s Sunni and Shiite branches. But the attack also follows the killing of Saudi-born Osama bin Laden in an American raid on May 2.
Al-Qaida is a fierce opponent of the Saudi regime and has sworn revenge for the death of bin Laden. But no one immediately claimed responsibility for the diplomat’s slaying.
A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban, the country’s most high profile militant group, called The Associated Press to say it did not kill the diplomat.
The spokesman, Ahsanullah Ahsan, added: “Although we believe Saudi Arabia is an even bigger slave to America than Pakistan, we are not involved in today’s killing.”
Tariq Dharejo, a police investigator in Karachi, said officers believe the shooting was motivated by anger over Saudi Arabia’s decision to send troops to Bahrain to quell protests by Shiites, who comprise 70 percent of the population there but are excluded from key positions in the Sunni-dominated government. Saudi Arabia is almost entirely Sunni.
^ alrite Icono you can make your point without swearing
Hm if they lied when they said they did it, they could just as easily have lied when they denied it. Also theres many ‘pakistani taliban’ groups, how do we know one of them didnt deny it and the other accepted it and so on.
Also while taliban often blow stuff up, them doing drive bys is not unknown.
I may be wrong but i think the killing might have been orchestrated by Iranian proxies in Pakistan.
For some it is America, for some it is Iran.
Anything BUT Taliban. Right?

Who is this Tariq Dharejo and who are his officers? Why do they BELIEVE that? What intelligence do they have?
Don't you use your brain before throwing away accusations, Iconoclast?
TTP first accepts and then denies. And Janjua believes the denying part wholeheartedly.
On the other hand, some "officers" believe Iran to be involved and Janjua believes this part yet again.
Taliban khariji munafiqeen ke liye soft spot kyoon?
This happened right after Osama got killed. The same Osama who was kicked out of Saudi by the government, and who was the enemy no. 1 there. Now that he is killed by Saudi friends, Taliban and other kharijis are mad. They had vowed revenge of Osama's death. They targeted Pakistanis a few days back and now the Saudis.
Why is it so difficult for you guys to see?
Saudis supported those anti-Islam munafiqeen along with Pakistan. Now the same monsters are haunting the two countries.
Just look at what Saudi themselves are saying. They point neither to America nor Iran.
Besides, we all know that Saudis are American bitc*es in ME. Why then would US kill one of their own?
The killed diplomate was actually double spy and he was selling americans sercrets via SA to chinese, so americans found it out and they target him and killed him with co operation of Iranian Inteligence and now why Iranins were looking for him BCOZ he the diplomate was in a love affair with Nijads family women and asked for a Nikkah and put her in his herm which made Nijadi anger and with help of CIA they killed him:chupki:
I am not denying that it could be Taliban, afterall, Taliban derive pleasure in killings at any oppurtunity they get, and its difficult to establish whether they accpet or deny responsibility.
However, first the demonstrations, then grenades and then the assassination raises serious questions about iranian connection.
Drive by shootings in Afghanistan have been claimed by Talibs but upto now we have never seen any targetted assassination like this one from Talibs. This is more like other target killings that happen in karachi.
And i am ignoring the other idiots.
