I was watching some interviews of protesters on CNN, and I believe that if Muburak is overthrown and a government, that is born out of the will of the people, is put in power, the peace treaty with Israel is pretty much dead. There is a lot of hatred for Israel, and the way they treat Palestinians, on the streets of Egypt. Wouldn’t be surprised if this possibility scares the **** out of the Saudis as well.
I’m not so sure that Mubarak is trying to find a country that will take him in. The man is like a stubborn stain, he is going to cling on to power as long as he can and he will probably do anything to stay in power, including ordering the army to start shooting live ammunition into the crowds. He’s 82 as well, the only reason why anyone as old as him would ever be this power hungry(rather than just going off into the sunset and pretty much retiring like Ben Ali did) is if he has some plans that have yet to be put into motion, and I think his plans are to install his son Gamal as the next dictator/pharaoh before he gives up the presidency and he will pretty much die trying to do exactly that.
Pulling the cops off the streets so that the Egyptian people(including the protesters) will become disillusioned by lawlessness and beg Mubarak to restore order was only one of his plans to retain power, and it was ruined by civilians forming their own groups to protect their properties. Right now I think he’s trying to wait out the protesters until the protesters get tired and run out of food. Hopefully that plan will fail as well.
