Saudi promotion of wahabi islam is a concession saudi royals do to Al-Qaida. Osama is still being supported financially by saudis. So It is a way royals protect themselves from militants. On a personal level saudis that I have met here in Canada (not a large numer) have been unfailingly polite and friendly, not just to me but to other non-muslims too. But then I do not work in saudi and am not subservient to them. When they come to north america, they are forced to admit equality of non-muslims. What they would do in their own country, I don't know.
