Saudi Arabia collects $27m for flood affectees
ISLAMABAD: On the directives of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday collected $27 million for the flood affectees through the Saudi Public Assistance Campaign.
Food items, quilts, clothes and items of daily use have also been collected during the campaign. King Abdullah donated 20 million riyals to the fund, Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz donated 10 million riyals while Saudi Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz contributed five million riyals to the assistance fund. It is worth mentioning that the Saudi Public Assistance Campaign would continue in Ramazan and Saudi citizens would donate generously.
The campaign coincides with the continuation of the air-bridge established between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan for quick and timely transportation of the relief goods to the flood-affected areas, including the contribution made by the Saudi Development Fund for distributing relief assistance in coordination with the UN agencies. The oil-rich kingdom has already sent 16 planeloads of relief supply.

The majority of the original $100 million aid that Saudi Arabia pledged has already been delivered. Since that first pledge the Saudi’s have more than doubled their aid commitment overall.

Re: Saudi Arabia to provide $100 million flood relief aid to Pakistan
Yes, that is correct. Saudi Arabia’s aid has mainly gone to Pakistani agencies. The Saudi Development Bank has now allocated $20 million for Pakistan flood relief raising the Saudi aid total to an unprecedented $238 million.
Abdul Aziz Alghadir, the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Islamabad, said that the distribution of the Kingdom’s donations in kind and cash would be made in coordination with the regional office of the donation campaign based in Pakistan, the Saudi Embassy and other relevant authorities in Pakistan.
He said that the Saudi Development Fund (SDF) on Wednesday signed a contract with a United Nations body under which the SDF would provide $9 million worth of financial support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Pakistan. He said the SDF has allocated $20 million for Pakistan’s flood victims
Re: Saudi Arabia to provide $100 million flood relief aid to Pakistan
Yaar like the BBC is an independent trustworthy organization. They pass off pictures of support for the Irani President as support against him. Its amazing that the NYTs and BBC openly state that Muslim countries are not doing enough when Pakistani news papers say they do the most. There is a disconnect there and it isn't based on lack of information.
Edit And I believe these are pledges to the UN while Saudi Arabia is giving directly to the government.
Re: Saudi Arabia to provide $100 million flood relief aid to Pakistan
Please read the disclaimer the BBC put at the end of the table, namely that there is a delay between some donations being announced and appearing in statistics.
Anyway, as stated already by CM and verified by Pakistani and Saudi spokesmen most Saudi donations are going directly to Pakistani authorities. I am sure you will also appreciate that with such huge and expansive disaster there are hundreds, probably thousands of agencies/groups people are donating to, rather just go through the UN.
