Icon, what benefit can we get by forming an alliance with intellectually bankrupt, internationally irrelevant countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc? sure they have money now which their royal families waste on shopping sprees in Europe, etc… but if peak oil theory is correct (and imo it is), then these arabs are going to go back to the stone age as soon as the west doesn’t need their oil. then what are they going to sell?
then, we will still be better off because no matter how pathetic the state of education in our country, we still have made some investments in our human capital. even if the state hasn’t, the people have done so for themselves to satisfy their own ambitions. we don’t need to be forming alliances with arabs. we need to be like Turkey and form alliances with countries that we can actually benefit from.
