Re: Saudi Arabia gives $133 million aid to Pakistan - Thank you

^^ That's truly generous of the king. Long live the king.

p.s we need to make sure the money goes straight to State bank and not to some MAToo charity.

Re: Saudi Arabia gives $133 million aid to Pakistan - Thank you

this is ADDITIONAL help for re-construction, they have already donated for the victims before and sent tons of help....

Re: Saudi Arabia gives $133 million aid to Pakistan - Thank you

yep..this is incremental aid

Re: Saudi Arabia gives $133 million aid to Pakistan - Thank you

If all this money is spent on rebuilding the infrastructure it will go a very long way in restoring the destroyed facilities.

Re: Saudi Arabia gives $133 million aid to Pakistan - Thank you

There is no way this money can reach extremist organizations, it is going to be thru government channels which itself is against extremism, I do hope atleast 70% of all aids reaches the victims/reconstruction efforts.

Re: Saudi Arabia gives $133 million aid to Pakistan - Thank you

^^ I hope so.

SAUDI ARABIA: TELETHON RAISES $32 MILLION FOR QUAKE VICTIMS

A telethon in Saudi Arabia to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan, ordered by King Abdullah, has raised more than 120 million Saudi riyals (around 32 million US dollars). The king started the fundraising campaign by announcing a personal donation of 10 million Saudi riyals (2.66 million dollars) to the fund, while Crown Prince Sultan donated 5 million riyals and businessman Prince al-Waleed ibn Talal gave 20 million. The telethon was jointly organised by the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news channel and Saudi TV. Saudi nationals and expatriates were seen flocking to the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium to deposit money, jewellery and other valuables in large glass boxes set up on the grounds. Crown Prince Sultan contributed 5 million Saudi riyals while interior minister Prince Naif gave 3 million riyals. Riyadh governor Prince Salman and Mecca governor Prince Abdul Majeed donated 1 million each.

Staff from the aid company Saudi Aramco, offered 7 million. Prince Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, deputy minister for defence and aviation, donated a 100,000 squared metre plot located in Dhahrat Dairab in Riyadh, estimated to be worth some 30 million riyals. Prince Ahmad bin Abdulaziz, deputy interior minister, donated 1 million. “We also have businessman Hassan Al-Mahdi cancelling his wedding and donating its cost of 500,000 to the drive,” a TV presenter announced. Al-Arabiya broadcast live feeds from its correspondents in quake-hit areas as an anchorman discussed the impact of the disaster with his guests in the studio. Governors were asked to organise the donation campaign in their regions. Interior minister Prince Naif is coordinator of the campaign. Prince al-Waleed’s donation consisted of 10,000 tents, 30,000 blankets and 5 million riyals worth of medical supplies, as well as cash. “Our contributions are meant to ease the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Pakistan and we pray for their hardships to be alleviated. We believe that humanitarian aid is a responsibility shared by all and that it transcends religion, race and geographic boundaries,” he was quoted as saying. Shortly after the 8 October quake, King Abdullah ordered 500 million Saudi riyals of emergency aid for Pakistan, to rebuild schools, hospitals and roads in earthquake-hit areas. Last week UN secretary-general Kofi Annan warned that there could be “a second, massive wave of death” if the world did not step up the aid effort, and called for 450,000 more winterised tents and temporary shelters and two million blankets and sleeping bags.
