Greater Multan: Pakistans leading batsman and captain, Inzamam-ul-haq, celebrated his 90th birthday with style by scoring his 421st Test century at the Greater Multan Stadium today. The century, scored at a brisk 0.178 runs a ball against the newest test playing nation, the Republic of Slovenia, was appreciated by a largish crowd present at the stadium. Although, the Pakistani batting collapsed round him for the 109087th time, it was left to the old favourite to take Pakistan to a safe total.
Speaking to TSNs youngish (with boyish good looks and a biege suit) correspondent, Migbal Khan, the Pakistan captain said that in his 70 year career this was yet another satisfying performance and that Pakistans talent was all there but they had a young team which needed time to mature. He singled out Nasir Afridi ( the grandson of the retired all rounder Shahid Afridi ) as a promising talent for his breath taking 20 of 1 ball performance. He was also very happy with Jameela Sami – the great grand daughter of Mohammed Sami for bowling with all her might but no luck. His most impressive accolade was reserved for Shoaib Akhtar (turned 89 earlier), who has been dogged with fitness problems this year. Inzi denied any rift with Shoaib and said that it wasn’t he who asked for Shoaib to reduce his run up but his wheelchair had developed a stress fracture due to hurtling down the pavilion end at more than 3 km/hr.
Wasim Bari, the permanent Head of Something important at PCB also added his voice to universal praise for Inzi saying that he had remained Pakistans most loyal servant and since newer players were taking a little long to adjust to their responsibilities of holding innings together, Inzi had been retained as Captain for the 180th time this century. When confronted by some reporters about any retirement plans for Inzi and for Younis Khan ( turned 78 last year ) to take over, Bari angrily rejected the charge that Tauseef was still in Australia, waiting for a chance to play in the next Pak V Aus series. He later clarified that Younis was being groomed for this role and would take over once Pakistan returns to true democracy, as announced by Field Marshall Musharraf , later this year……..
