sarongs

Some Guppy mentioned, in one of the lifestyle threads a few weeks ago, sarongs. First time i’ve heard of any desi female discuss sarongs  i love sarongs… they’re relatively popular here with goris, but not so much with desis (not yet anyways, maybe the trend will catch on). Anyhow, i’m in a bad mood so to cheer myself up - i wanted to share some of my favourite sarongs. Unsurprisingly, i prefer sarongs of a certain ‘style’. The more ‘out there’ in terms of style, the more i like them :~D

What are sarongs - basically unstitched pieces of fabric that wrap around like a long skirt. No one can claim it’s unIslamic  Before i get fatwas dropping on me like raindrops, people - it’s a long loose skirt - it’s loose enough to pray namaaz in (definitely better than some tight jeans i have seen Muslim girls in) and covers your legs entirely so you are not showing any ankles. i’ve seen many many Muslim girls in mosques wearing loose long skirts to perform namaaz, it’s the same concept here - sarongs are kindof just like long skirts but the ones i have differ from skirts in the sense that my sarongs are more simple, unstitched pieces of fabric.

i’ve cropped the pics - all i want to show are the prints on the sarongs, anything else is irrelevant i think.

hmm okay this is a weird picture but i wanted to show a little bit of the print plus the frills at the end; the frills/tassles whatever you wanna call them, don’t actually come out at the bottom because the way i wrap it around, they come out at the side. Does that make sense to anyone except myself? :~D It depends on how you wrap it around, i guess.

This is not really a sarong, but i wear it as one… i love the print on it…

i had taken pics of the beige kurta i wear on top - yes, it’s just like a kurta kameez… but um usska picture theek sai nahin niqla tha, so i cropped that out.

Okay, hope someone besides myself enjoys these pics :~/ i took a long time in compressing their quality and posting them up here.

Err yeah nice pics and the speech.

I like sarongs too though I haven't worn them yet but that's cuz I don't have a car so I have to walk whereever I go. Pants are definitely more comfortable to walk in (esp if you gotta run).

I have about 4 different sarongs that can be worn in various styles. My mother even wants to use one of them as a dupatta. :D

I love sarongs.

Oh yes.Actually my friend got a bunch of these from Pakistan.Over there -people use them as chadaars. But here we use them as sarongs or skirts. And yes they look great.

I love them, but Ammi is always afraid they will accidentally show my legs, so doesn't like me wearing them.

My cousins went to Lahore last year and got these really cool wrap-around dressy outfits in jamevaar. Kind of a mix between a fitted sharara and a sarong. Looked nice.

Very nice prints. I love that blue n white sarong! umm I have never really seen Muslim women in sarongs..Only non-muslims and usually their legs are showing from the front or side. I’d like to try it on though. I have some questions for you

  1. how long is the cloth and how many times do you wrap it around the waist?

  2. what kind of shirts do you wear with them? I have mostly seen girls wear tank tops with sarongs, a little above the waist…:s

  3. where can I get them from?

If it’s a decent skirt type dress then I’d “love” to wear it…I love wearing long dresses and skirts..do you think a hijabi would look as decent in this dress? :o

Thanks in advance. :flower1: :flower1:

oh lovely …
