Is there a Thread about saris already? I have been looking around for sari styles that are in these days… Its for my dowry, so I dunt want to get style wrong… Is there a thread about saris already?
Re: Sari thread?
i dont think there are many "trends" to follow per se with a saree...
as long as u get the blouse fitted right and the pleats proper... it will always look nice...
If you've never worn a saree before you may want to get them stitched with the falls/belt etc, so u can wear them soon after the wedding without having to worry about hwo to wrap it.
As with any jahez outfit, if you're going to get alot of them, keep alot of the blouses and sarees unstitched so that when a new style comes out or u want to try something different (like a low back and long sleeves vs high neck, whatever) u have that option...
I think there's a big distinction btween indian sarees and pakistani sarees...i personally think indian ones are better
Some trendy Indian styles are like bra-tops, halter-tops..butterfly palloos...I think another nice style is the low back with elbow-length sleeves...
I dont know abt where you are, but in most of the desi shops here in NY, they sell the heavy sarees wiht two types of blouses, "saas" (unstitched with minimal kaam and thus can be more modest) and "bahu" blouses, which are usually full of kaam, and reveal much more.
for fabrics, a banarsi (chiffon or real?) wil always be a classic...
sheer georgette/chiffon falls nicely...

My friend is getting me stuff from Pakistan and she has been asking me to tell her what kinda saaris do I want. And I was just cluse less. Ofcourse i would go for the ones that are not relieving.... I was hping to see pictures... But I guess I ll just google it :). I am in Atlanta, so I guess i might have to go to global mall to get saaris... But I dunt really like the indian styled saaris...I mean the colors, embroidry and styles.

Re: Sari thread?
Well there are a VARIETY of styles but the most common one (as shown in most movies) looks best imo. Bengali style can be quite nice also. The South Indian ones are a little bit difficult to drape :S and the Marathi one doesn't attract me at all...
There isn't one typical Indian design, some can be quite colourful but there's also decent ones, either way I'd always prefer Sarees from India over Sarees from Pakistan...
Make sure you practise a lot then you'll get used to walking in them, or use light materials that's going to faciliate it and it makes you look slim and tall.
Re: Sari thread?
Hey girls. Don't really know where to ask this.. Does anyone know where I can get simple sarees in Karachi? I mean REALLY simple. Like with no kaam or zari. Maybe some plain embroidery or resham work. Nothing that shines or sparkles. I'm looking for some for my Nani to wear on my wedding.. She won't wear anything "fancy"
Please help out if you know of any such shops. Thanks!
Re: Sari thread?
no one knows of a place selling simple embroidered saris?
Re: Sari thread?
Try the internet. Some designers offer rather simple sarees, although mostly Sarees are supposed to show off a bit :/ I guess I can only recommend shopping in India... :S
not an option :) thanks anyway. I guess we could get some plain "self-print" cloth and get it dyed..
Re: Sari thread?
^^I am positive that you will be able to find such chiffon with light thread embroidery of the right width to make a sari. Also, undyed chiffon with mukesh is readily available for dying for sari's. The best thing to do is when you are in Karachi and start shopping just ask the shopkeepers where you can get embroidered chiffon for sari's. They are usually pretty helpful, from my experience in Lahore at least. Then you just need to buy it and get it tailored.
Yeah i tried that, didn't have much luck.. We still ask at every shop we go to :)
Thank you!
Re: Sari thread?
omg i've never heard that saas bahu terminology before. hilarious!

a sari does not have to be revealing if you don't want it to be. if you get a longer blouse stitched and keep the pallu wrapped around, then nothing will show. that's how i always wear mine.
