Sarfraz in 'Fixing' accusation
Sarfraz has said that the betting underworld is poised to move in big time in the current series about to get underway in Pakistan. It's common knowledge that the biggerst betting syndicates are based in India and he claims that the sacking of Aamir Sohail as chief selector and recall of several flops like Saqi and Afridi point to a new method of fixing. In other words playing proven flops to get a desired result.
I don't usually have much time for Srafraz but the decision to recall Wasim Bari a known failure as Chief selector did seem strange when we had so much success under the new regime. He also claims that bringing old pros back to give advice was to rub Miandad's nose in it as he didn't get on with him which I don't agree with. What do you think?
Geo TV had a segment on 'satta' or sports betting a couple of days ago. It was quite obvious that satta is very much prevalent in the sub-continent. Police was saying there isn't much they can do to stop it. TV sales are soaring high as bookies want to place TV sets on the streets and in shops to lure the average man or new clients.
I don't care about satta as long as it doesn't involve players.
^ I agree FG. So long as the players are not involved and the games are not fixed I don't really care. As for Sarfraz everything he says shoudl be taken with a pinch of salt.
Speaking of Sarfraz...is Rani still with him?
Yeah Sarfraz is notorious for making controversial remarks and does it mostly for publicity seeking. Unfortunately our selection policy has played into his hands with some rather weird decisions lately but that's a different subject.
Rani died years ago FG! Silly billy.
Shame Sarfraz didn't follow suit :p

I think our boys are clean, but with such big money involved it will pay for India to lose. But with bookies doing the swap we might not have to fear match fixing on either side.
Betting makes bookies bash borders

BANGALORE: Cricket betting has no borders. As India and Pakistan square up for the subcontinent’s biggest cricketing slugfest of the decade, a mix of adrenaline and jingoism has forced bookmakers on both sides of the border to do business with each other.
The 14-year wait has whipped up a patriotic storm and millions of Indian fans are loosening their purse-strings. Big money is pouring in, more than during the World Cup, admit bookies. But with just no one backing Pakistan, an Indian win in Karachi would send bookmakers in India to financial doom. Ditto with bookmakers in Pakistan, where there are no takers for India. So, even as India and Pakistan continue to brawl over Kashmir, hard-nosed bookmakers have struck up a mutually profitable betswapping deal.
This is how it works: After calculating risks, Indian bookmakers are transferring a major portion of bets on India to Pakistani bookmakers and, in return, accepting a portion of bets on Pakistan from across the border, to correct the balance between sauda (bet) and the dhanda (business).
India quoted at (65/100) start favourites, while Pakistan is selling at (12/10). Bookmakers reveal that, unlike in the past, the betting is lopsidedly in favour of India. There is no way that they could have balanced their books if India won the first One-dayer. So, they reached across to their equally nervous counterparts in Pakistan and sewed up deals that would leave every one a winner.
Bookmakers have devised several interesting pools with attractive dividends to spice up the business. In Nehle Pe Dehla, get the combination of the top scorer and the highest wicket-taker right and you could win a fortune. Sachin-Shoaib are on top, quoted at (3/1).
According to bookmakers, Sachin and Shoaib are on the shopping list of most bigtime bettors across pools. And if the buzz on the betting rings is anything to go by, Sachin-Shoaib & Co is the hottest scrip in the cricketing stock market.
