Sarees

Re: Sarees

Sara, go to Jackson Heights or in NJ (Oaktree Rd?) you can find readymade blouses from India and Pakistan. Although my wife alters the Indian blouses coz normally they are too revealing. (priced from 5$ to 25$)

Re: Sarees

Re: Sarees

Re: Sarees

oh God, is this promiscuous paki but with a new username?

although i suppose with freedom of speech etc... i shouldnt say anything... but then again, theres ways of saying things and then theres ways of saying things, u know?

Re: Sarees

I am a guy but with all due respect would still like to give my opinion..... I agree to SweetOne and Muzna.... naturally tied sarees look more elegant and provide a better fall than the stitched sarees.... I have heard this from my mom who started wearing sarees few years back quite regularly and being new to this style of dressing wore stitched sarees...but over a period of time after getting used to, started to tie the saris herself without any problems.... its just a matter of getting used to.

Re: Sarees

You can’t seriously think that my comments were directed to you specifically…

Re: Sarees

I thot u meant the not having anywhere to wear them :halo:

Re: Sarees

I have 4 stitched sarees ...I think its not easy to wear un stitched sarees..

Re: Sarees

Umm so what purpose does the “petticoat” serve? :konfused:

i just tried on 2 saris tonight, they’re aweeeeesome :bobo:

Re: Sarees

^ :bummer:

Re: Sarees

how did you try on the saris without a petticoat? the petticoat is the underskirt into which you tuck the sari to keep it up. its the base structure of the sari. no petticoat, no sari, in other words.

Re: Sarees

i did try it on w/o the petticoat.. :konfused: It did fi better with the petticoat on though.

Re: Sarees

wait, are the ones with the pleats sewn in worn without a petticoat?? how would that work for sheer saris, like in chiffon? wouldnt your legs show through because the petticoat also does double duty as an underskirt.

Re: Sarees

I was just trying them on, obviously I’d wear the petticoat underneath if I were wearing it forreal.. i dunno abt the pleats being sewn in having anything to do wiht a petticoat though.

I have a white saari, and it was VERY sheer , even tho I wore the petticoat underneath :bummer: Is it possible to get sari dyed? :konfused:

Re: Sarees

Get a thicker petticoat sara, one thats not see-through at all. i wouldn;t risk dying it. Petticoats not only provide you with coverage but also define ur body shape. A nice snug one will give ur sari a better fit where a loose, baggy one will make u look poofy. Additionally the top of your sari is tucked in to the petticoat to hold it in place and keep it from twisting and slipping around and ofcourse give it a finished look on the top, you would never want to not tuck the sari in at the top, even the stitched ones.

Re: Sarees

wait, so how are they sposed to be? 2 of my petticoats are "shalwar" types, to put an elastic/nala in..another is a "skirt"...

Re: Sarees

shalwar petticoats  never heard of that. they are supposed to be slightly a-line skirts, fitted enough from the top to not restrict ur movement/ sitting and they have a somewhat frilly end to give the bottom of the sari some form.

Re: Sarees

Thanks Femme, i didnt know that the sewn sari had to be tucked in as well. Thanks for letting us know.

Re: Sarees

haha FF, i think she means they’re with the drawstring/nara thing going on in the top, as opposed to a hook closure or elastic. elastic is seriously bad cos it’ll yank down if you step on your sari and woops! thats no good. the nara one is the best cos you can make it as tight as you want/as it needs to be to hold your sari up. i’ve never had a hook closure but i imagine if you lost weight or put it on, it might be a bit of a hassle to wear it.

Re: Sarees

^ yeah but the're pant-style, not skirt
