I need the translation of this song “baalo battiyan” by Ataullah Khan Essakhel…
I get a jist of what he’s saying and it sounds quite touching, I think it’s about hijar and judaai.. I love it but I don’t understand some of the words (I might even be mispronouncing them) and I can’t really make sense out of half of what he’s saying (like what’s turning the lights on got to do with getting beat, sado machoism?)..
Some of the words are completely new to me so I’ve put a “something” in place..
If some Saraiki speaker can enlighten me I’d really appreciate it.
**I'm going to borrow unkal 5abi's addition and try to translate those words
**
PS: its not saraiki yet its commonly confused as saraiki. its the mianwali dialect
I have replaced your **something **in the lyrics below:
Baalo battiyan ve mahi saaN ki maaro sanglaan naal (actually its saan ko meaning us as in beat us)
pital banayai sauna ban'saan amla naal
mein ithey te dhol mera waaN te (can't listen to it right now so don't know that word and wot it means)
mein sammaN dholey di baan te (samman = sleep, i sleep on the beloved's arm)
mereya ve mahiya koi vikkaRN malok aaya ( for sale: the maloks have come for sale)
inj barbad keetai meku vekhan lok aaya
mein ithey te dhol multan aey
uddey but vich medi jaan'ney
mereya ve mahiya kad sajna da chhota hai
kaaliyan zulfan te vich mukh chan da tota hai
mein ithey te dhol khushab hai
akh lagan nai dende tere khwaab hai
mereya ve mahiya eho mundri mein pai rakhsan
aap zaleel KisaaN tedi izzat mein banai rakhsan ( actually its thi saan: i will become zaleel but will keep your honour)
mein ithey te dhol chakwal aey
** assaN mar gaye tay tera nakhwaal aye (need to listen to it to make sense of that; been long time since i heard it)**
mereya ve mahiya koi banney utton ghaa keeta
jigar te hath rakh ke assaan dhol judaah keeta
mein ithey te dhol miyanwali
we mein jainday *pichon umraan gaali *(whom: for whom i have spent my life)
mereya ve mahiya koi modhey te loyee mahiya ( a cloth punjabis usually make a turban out of or keep on their shoulder)
jiven chan mein ujrraan shaala ujrrey na koi mahiya....
