Folks with autism can be very bright. They are well organized and pay attention to detail. SAP AG is hiring autistic people for various positions where their uniqueness is a strength. For example debugging code in software. They have recognized autistic folks don’t do well in standard format interviews.
1% of population in the west is autistic. 85% of this unemployed. This new approach could be a game changer.

Good move, providing a segment of society with opportunities while utilizing their abilities. I met the COO of a Chicago company autonomy works which has been active in doing the same. Large companies stepping up is a great development.

Depends on how able people with autism are to live independently. Employment is just one aspect of potential independent living. It can range from people living in institutions all their lives to those who are fairly independent.
