**Spanish banking giant Santander has announced a profit of 2.2bn euros ($3.3bn; £2bn) for the July to September quarter.**The figure was virtually unchanged from the same period a year earlier.
For the year-to-date, the bank has now made 6.74bn euros, down slightly on the 6.9bn euros it made in the first nine months of last year.
Santander owns the Alliance & Leicester, Abbey and Bradford & Bingley brands in the UK.
