First off, after reading the title of the thread i came running :@:
If they are closed toe then you should stuff them in the front with something soft. There are lots of other things too like, stick on pads which you can put in the middle inside of the shoe to make it tighter.

Ya sandal is much harder, but i would try some Scholls insoles with different thinkness. They are kind of like grip spongy stickers and they help from your foot sliding out. And with them the shoe should go down like half a size.

Its called dr.scholls, you can google it. But they are shoe insert type things which help with foot support. I know in america you can find them in almost any big store. Im sure you can even ebay them. They are very good, they help with fitting into a larger shoe and also are good for your balance.
