many of home based designers upload the silk stuff etc. moreover you can ask your vendor for it. Another thing is when you vist pakistan you can get. Simple

AGREED! By the time regular, non-branded suits arrive overseas, they are often MORE expensive than the Sana Safinaz Silk prices!
this silk fabic ..soft ,thick silk I really like this price is 2000rs
You are right Afaiyz!
Main ne yeh silk shirt li thi or kafi silk fabric available hai lakin choose kerna pherta hai …
or client humsha kehte hain pehle pictures send kerien laikin yeh bara muskil kaam hai shopkeeper pictures laine mein nahre kerte hain or bara mushkil laghta hai yeh sab kuch:bummer:
Yes that the problem of selection but that can also be resolved that one can keep such things in the shopping list while visiting Pakistan herself, Frankly speaking the silk suits I have purchased from local market are way better than SS. I like Sobia Nazir and hope to get 2 suits from her collection insha’Allah. Rest I have left on my visit to Pakistan. In fact all advertising gimmick has made customers longing for the dresses immediately. Winter collection I see are good of Nishat, LSM and Firdous but one living in Pakistan and areas where there is summers 8 to 9 months i think such an expensive outfit is wastage, better to invest in lawns
I must say that I have to agree with mehroo and muscat99
I had not so good experienced with 2 home based designers
And both are known and popular here at gs
First one:
I ordered an embroidered chiffon suit from her so called collection (must be a replica)
What I didn’t like was the chiffon quality (not that I used to buy) but I could compromise on that
Secondly I was promised silk shalwar and patti and Pakistani grip (blend of silk and cotton with higher percentage of cotton) for linning
What I got was cheap Pakistani grip material for shalwar and patti even though I paid the price of 70 g raw silk
hopeless material for linning(50-100rs at that time which I never used)
My total cost was around 7000 rs in 2010
I decided not to deal with her furthermore Not that I think she cheated on me
But I guess we were not so good in communication
Second time I bought an embroidered chiffon suit (black & white) for 7000 rs from Another hb designer
She did the same thing with shalwar/patti and linning material
But this time the chiffon dye bleeded as hell so all the white embroidery got grey and the end result was a ruined suit
In both cases my knowlegde of material was underestimated and I was charged too much
After these 2 experiences I decided not to deal with any home based designers
And I Started buying designer lawns/chiffon reading gs so thumbs up for all the lovely ladies here on gs
I have bought designer lawns/chiffon in nearly 3 seasons
Including: SS, sobia nazir, HSY, T & M, Bareeze and GA and I want to share the advantages of buying designer stuff especially when you are not able to see or feel it
[ol]
[li]I had no problem with the bleeding colours or embroidery not even in washing them in machine[/li][li]The material I got was as good as I was promised[/li]
[li]Apart from gulahmed this season–the material is getting thinner and thinner [/li][/ol]
[li]I had the opportunity to chose the particular design I wanted[/li][li]I haven’t been to PK for last 3 years but I can still follow the trend[/li]
The only disadvantage I see is maybe the a little bit higher price, but that’s not a problem when you are able to use your clothes more than two times
And yes I have to agree it’s a disadvantage for home based designers to make designer stuff as custom made
The profit margin is low bc the buyers know the actuel price (by online sources) of the designers suit
I just wanted to say to that these designer collections are the only source for us people who doesn’t go to PK so often
Please ladies do not discourage people in buying it
Otherwise there will be lot of home based designers who will rip off with cheap look alike
Which no one can guaranty in quality
In other words there are many who seriously rip of
Regards
besides that
everybody have their own choice
if someone doesnt like ss collection
that doesnt mean she/he have to directly discourage in buying it
it sounds funny for me
"agar mujhe pasand nahin to kisi ko bhi khareedna nahin chahiye"
i am sure when the replica will arrive
some HB designers will sell them almost same prices bc then people abroad will not know the market prices
Designer collection is 90% good quality wise, but nowadays adobe etc had made everything so easy to glamorize so even designer suits you are not that sure of colours, as I had parcel from Pakistan in June and although I liked most of suits but many suits were not as they were being perceived as per their photos except JJ and elan.
And yes everyone has her/his own choice and if someone like SS or any other collection they should go for it. The only thing is SS has not appealed me at all although price as per silk fabric seems fine. I like Sobia Nazir and I have ordered the suits I like. But still I apprehend about the actual look as in 2011 I went to Sobia's lawn exhibition after looking at catalogue and suits were really not at all alike they were being photographed. But living abroad you have to compromise on these things. Specially when one is not visiting Pakistan frequently then you have to. Even I have my family in Pakistan but i prefer HB designer to get the stuff due to many reasons.
However Proto been in this business for so long and a very much reliable vendor's remarks to the fabric quality are real testimonial for me. Other do have their own choices and we can agree to disagree :D
well it is certainly very good for you that you find proto as a reliable source :) ...when people are getting so reliable they should be more carefull about commenting on others work especially when they somehow are in the same business.
i must say that I was a bit disappointed when I read discouraging comments...not bc it will effect me of buying anything especially when I have tried some of the designers in last three seasons but I didnt find it as good business ethics.
I have also used this forum for advices on designers lawn and i must say proto was very prompt and nice to advice me as well as everyone on this forum and really appreciated it
and i will always appreciate her or any others advices but not happy with discouraging flavored advices
thats it
I am sorry roshane for sounding "discouraging" people about SS. All I said was my personal opinion and in no way I had an intention to bring anyone down, neither I am at a position to be professionally jealous from SS. if you read again, I just meant that I felt the fabric/prints were not worth the price tag. Few prints did get sold out within hours which is a proof that people loved them as well ! so all I said was MY thoughts on fabric and pricing and we all are free to express that I guess.
i do not own a SS jora, because my mum always buys Gul Ahmed, Al-Karam. And these two are honestly the best. I would love to get an SS next summer and try it out.
Proto, how about you start your own collections of good quality local silk Kapray, do some nice photoshoot and put it up here for all of us guppies to go gaga over? I will be first in line to order!

Stop jumping on me if you cannot comprehend what I tried to say and thanks a lot for your idea. I think** I** am the best person to decide how to carry on MY business for more orders and I dont think I asked anyone for an advice.
Please go ahead and buy all pieces available in the stores and have fun wearing them. I am sure you'll rock !
Tauba hai bhayee yahan to comment dena hee galey par gyaa. I think some devout fans of SS cant stand the criticism. But prints do speak how creative they are !!!Its my personal opinion and I have all the right of freedom of expression, the comment never meant to stop anyone from buying. Various times i find the discouraging comments about something I like and its my own decision to go for it or not rather getting upset on the comment
Oh no! Didn't mean to offend or sound sarcastic! Ouch!
I am one of those in the same boat being overseas and it's so hard to buy from relatives back home. We just go with the designer names because its the latest design and there is some guarantee of quality and i dont go home often or for long visits so have no other choice!
I would love to buy non brand printed silk stuff but its not available for us guys. Even the lawn I got in summer I was disappointed by some of the material that looked so good in pics but in reality yuck, but what to do? I have received good advice here about different brands and that helped me avoid some of them so that really helped. There aren't that many silk collections out there though and they are all costing an arm and a leg!
... as a designer, my clients frequently ask my opinion about brands like bareeze/kayseria,SS, etc. As often prints/colors are not as good in real as they look in pictures, so I honestly inform them about the material/print/color, and whether its worth buying or not, so that they can decide before spending their hard earned money on them and not feel sorry later.
Everyone is free to express their view and write review on a local or any International brands. Even buying from an international brands (Hermes, louis vuitton or any other brand...) doesn't mean that everyone will like all their collection/designs, and one should voice your opinion about them. By raising their voice, one is actually putting pressure on these brands to improve quality. If the consumer doesn't raise voice the industry keeps reducing quality. Same is the case here Proto is not bad mouthing SS becuz of any insecurities or competition, she is not in competition with SS. Her opinion about designers out side GS is understandable and it really help people spend money without feeling cheated.
Unfortunatly, some ppl often buy from big brands only to showoff the $$$ spent on the so n so brand and not becuz they like it. If one person has any right to like a dress/design the others have equal rights of disliking it. A professional's opinion is always better than a non professional.
Oh dear I think my post was misunderstood. I wasn't being mean. I love the feedback about fabric quality I get here. I suggested about seeing non brand fabrics stitched up because I am one of those hopeless ones who can't even tell what it will look like seeing a roll of fabric. Even seeing an outfit on a hanger it's hard to tell. Sorry for any misunderstanding!
Agree with Panache and AFAYIZ 100%, as at the end of the day its upto as a buyer to decide what you purchase BUT the whole purpose of GS and this forum in particular is to get advice and opinions from our GS contributors.
TO be honest ROshane, i think you'll find you are in a minority here. Most people especially the ones abroad really value the advice given by our HB girls especially as in the case of proto she actually saw the material in her hand and was giving her opinion. She has saved people money and that in my opinion is BRILLIANT
