We got Costco’s membership 4 months back & the only thing we have ever bought from there is a small food processor & Tang.
I went to Sams club they other day & saw many grocery items that I regularly do use in my house . They even had diapers in my baby’s size.
We are thinking about canceling Costco’s membership & getting Sams club’s membership. But everyone I know goes to Costco. Is there something that I am missing here?
We go to Costco. I buy Tide laundry detergent, fabric softener, paper towels, toilet rolls, cereal, ketchup, tomatoes, salsa, uncooked fish, etc. from there. We even bought a king-size mattress from there.... got an awesome price. I've never visited Sam's club .... is it better?
I think Costco may have more selection, and the quality of their fresh food is better than Sams Club ie: stuff from the bakery. We've had both memberships, but honestly enjoy the layout and selection/quality at Costco more.
MIA we compared the gas prices at Costco & this other place we usually get gas from. Costco turned out to be more money.

I find Costco to be too dark in terms of the layout. It has more of a Restaurant whole sale store feel to it. No?
We buy:
Smart Balance spread
Eggrolls
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Lots of stuff is actually pretty decent there...
The toilet paper & paper towels I saw there are not the ones we use.
Maybe its me inclined on particular brands. Or maybe I need to have a thorough look at that place.
When I say things I saw in Sams club I mean
Heinz Ketchup
Dole fruit cans
Del Monte Whole kernel cans
Hellman's Mayonnaise
Pampers diapers & so on
^About Gas, it must be your location, ours is definitely cheaper than the other places… I’ve compared.
And if you have an Amex card, you get 2% cash back too.
Basmati rice is available at Costco too We always buy it from there.
I actually switched to the Costco brand (Kirkland) paper towels and toilet rolls, they’re great
I wish Costco had pampers :hinna:
The thing I like most about Costco is their customer service. If Sam’s Club is anything like walmart… I definitely would not prefer going there.
Like I prefer Target over walmart… even though Walmart is cheaper, but their customer service SUCKS and the store is always so messy plus I had a guy come upto me in the parking lot asking for money, now THAT was scary since I was all alone with my then 2 year old daughter… so I just stopped going to Walmart, too many shady-looking people lurking around.
If you’re getting Sam’s club membership, do let us know how it was. If its good, I might switch too… will be needing lots of pampers soon
^ Awww yeah InshaAllah. Good luck for that. On a side note. Sign up on pampers.dom they send you coupons at times. Oh & I just bought some Pampers diapers from diapers.com & ended up saving $15.00 on 7 weeks supply :)
I know Sams club & Walmart are sister companies but the customer service part about Walmart differs from location to location.
I have been to a Walmart where the people on the counter actually put your stuff in the bags & then in the cart for you & then I have been to Walmarts where everything is just messy. Rude ignorant staff & not to forget as you mentioned creepy people around.
The Sam's club we went to seemed pretty good in terms of customer service. They didn't know that we were not members & we were just asking random questions about whats where. 3 different people in different aisles. Very helpful actually.
Oh & the gas part. Yeah it turns out the suburb we live in has the best gas prices around the whole city. How cool is that. But still that Costco is in the same city & there was big difference.
I am gonna wait for some more suggestions & as to why Costco than Sams club & then most probably convince hubby jee to cancel Costco's membership.
I think they are very similar when it comes to pricing. (I've compared several products and they are within about half a dollar of each other.) Although, some say that Costco tends to be higher priced than Sam's Club.
Each warehouse will have items that the other doesn't, but that's going to be typical whenever you compare two stores to each other.
We always go to Costco because we like the store better, customer service, items, layout, etc. We occasionally go to Sam's Club if there's a free entry day or if we borrow someone's card.
Maybe you could do a trial with Sam's before you cancel the Costco membership? Ask them at the front desk. Or borrow a friend's card. They do also have free-entry day promotions for non-members.
costco is my fav place to shop esp for household items, bakery, fish, and jewelry...We used to use huggies but switched to kirland brand for both diapers and wipes. We love costco, the only bad thing is that we always ended up spending than more rthan wat we had planned...
