Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

Hi All,

We are planning to start ready-to-wear dresses for kids (girls) Can you guys give any reference for the measurements of standard sizes?

Cheers,

Annie

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

don't standard kids' sizes already exist in the industry?
like 18, 20, 22, 24, 26,?

if you are starting such a line then please do keep a few things in mind........

  • provide an opening in the back of the shirt for it to fit over their heads
  • do not make the neckline deep....these are children....they do not need to show cleavage!
  • use decent thread that will not snap the first time the article of clothing is worn
  • over-lock the seams
  • use fabric that is not going to be itchy for the child or irritate the skin (unless you are fully lining the article of clothing)
  • avoid using tiny bobbles or embellishments that the child will pick off and try to eat (yes a child choked once)

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

Thanks a lot for the tips Muzna, they are great help.

The industry standard sizes measurements is what I am looking for.

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

I think u can find them at rupali on-line.
Great points muzna, overlocking is really important, would prefer kapra which won't tear, good quality embellishments too- good luck with the new venture

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

awesome tips Muzna.

Also, use decent fabric (in addiiton to decent threads and non-itchy fabric).

Just because they are kids, doesnt mean fabric that will tear the first time they wear it is ok. I love to keep all my daughter's outfits, even if she outgrows them... but stuff that rips in the first go, isnt ideal.

And i am not sure, but can you use "Non Fire Danger" material? Like most children clothings have a standard... i am not sure whether this can be done.

Yes!!!!! Spot on Muzna!!

And may I add...Please...for the love of God, stop making boys' kurtas that have those stiff, tight, stand up Chinese collars!!! They are so uncomfortable for little boys..my kids always complain that it's too tight around their throat....I can barely GE them to wear fancy/formal desi kapray anymore because it's almost impossible to find something with a plain round or v neck that is still appropriate for party wear!

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

^ JJ has really nice clothes for kiddos… and even ChenOne… :k:

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

I second the neckline thing.Either they are so tight that the poor head refuses to go through it,or it is so loose that it actually looks silly. The best thing would be to have buttons so that it can be an appropriately sized neckline and when putting on/taking off the buttons can be used.Seriously that is the one thing I desire the most with desi outfits for kids..!

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

Really appreciate the comments/feedback everyone.

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

And atop making kurtay for boys, slim fit!!!!!!

I cant get my son's shoulders to fit i to most of the kurtay that are in these days!

Kids need movement ease... Slim fit anything is plain silly! My son isnt even chubby.

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

oh...forgot to add one major thing for girl's outfits....

  • if you are going to provide a dupatta.....then make it a dupatta......not just a strip of fabric!!!! especially if it is for a 5 year old or better child.

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

Thanks for all the suggestions =)

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

so did ?..... i mean did you mde dresses for kids ?
what is your fb ?

Re: Sample Kids dresses - Need size chart

Yes did, quite a few - more on the fancy side though. Ready-to-wear don't sell for ED though so I had to stop. Plus my experience with the orders I processed so far is, it is probably best to make dresses with exact measurements than standard sizes.
