Sammich issues

I dug out my $7 sandwich maker (Target sales zindabad) and started making sandwiches. Great way to use leftovers and eat some veggies.

only problem? Dunno if it’s the machine or the bread or I’m putting in too much filling, but the sandwich isn’t “sealed” so it falls apart…plus it’s not symmetrical.

They taste good, so no issue there, I just don’t like the presentation.

this is what I’m talking about:

Re: Sammich issues

I’ve had one of those before. That’s really strange, you shouldn’t have any spillage and what’s up with that off-center crease? Are you centering your bread? Is it moving around after you close the press? :konfused:

Re: Sammich issues

Hmmmmm too much filling???

Or the centre cut doesn’t “cut in half” properly.

Re: Sammich issues

Does it properly close and lock when you put the press down? :s

Re: Sammich issues

hmm the only thing I can thing of is the placement of the sandwich. If the sandwich is placed in the center of one side of the sandwich maker, using the bottom as a guide, then the sandwich should come out symmetrical and should be sealed on all four edges…if the sandwich doesn’t come out symmetrical then the edges won’t be sealed since they weren’t aligned properly…don’t know if that makes any sense.

Also I’ve learned you get the best results with the normal loaf bread, that fits into the slot perfectly.

Re: Sammich issues

The problem is alignment and also stacking in the filling. Your filling as per in picture is coming out the onion rings are out of the bread and in that case sandwitch maker makes mess. Your filling can be burnt and even sandwitch maker goes messy. You have to make sure that you put in filling in appropriate amount and stacked.
Moreover another thing i found is that your filling mixture is very slack and dropping off. Have not you added mayonnaise to it?Its better if the filling is a bit binded so it clings to the bread and it gives the best result.

Re: Sammich issues

Yeah…but the long bakery bread loaf is so yummy :yummy:

It hasn’t gotten burnt, a little messy sure but I clean that up.

On teh second one, I put a touch of mayo on the slices but not in the filling though. Hot mayo…doesn’t sound very appetizing to me :bummer:

Re: Sammich issues

you can put even some dressing Like Thousand Island I use in my sandwiches n they taste yummy. You can add some yogurt to hot mayo or some cheese spread, it will make it better in taste. Better put mayo in the filling mixture instead on the bread otherwise the filling will be scattered, thats the reason its slacking outside. If you want to avoid calories then you can even add the Olive Groove Spread or Margarine

Re: Sammich issues

I am not an expert ..but shape of the bread used in that machine should be like bread in this image…

i think you should try this kind of bread…experts can give their opinion

Use large size bread plus place the slices in the middle and do not press hard to close the lid just press a little and turn on the machine after a min lid will come down itself

Re: Sammich issues

yep its the shape of your bread!

Re: Sammich issues

Yes..you need to use sandwich bread…the square one

Use the standard loaf bread in this.
The bread you have would work great in a panini press but not this

Re: Sammich issues

I think i’ll get a paninini maker instead… :hmmm: recommendations?

The cuisinart one is pretty good. But look for a couple of things.
1-You want something with floating plate so it accommodates diff thickness sandwiches properly,
2- removable plates make cleaning easier.

Re: Sammich issues

I want a Panini maker soooo bad…but just can’t convince myself to spend that much.

So for now, I use these two sophisticated tools to make my paninis

*(Yes that is a 100 year old grill pan and a brick covered in foil )
