If u look at Sami’s performance this year, he has not been impressive at all. I mean a series or two can be called as bad phase but this is like a complete flop.
What do you guys think?
Its not that I am critisizing based on a recent bad performances, but he has not lived upto the expectation for a long time, against different sides on different venues.
What is the solution? Should he be rested for sometime to sort his self out?
He's just come off playing on seaming wickets in England so he'll prolly find it extra hard to get some help while bowling on pak tracks being out of form.
He's a breakthrough wicket-taking bowler but doesn't seem to provide enough sting in the attack IMO. Seems distracted these days for some reason.
He's a good bowler who I hope will bounce back asap. And he can, but someone will have to work on him to get him back on track.
When you bowl as quick as Sami you get many chances. Sami is also lucky that both Umar Gul and Shabbir are injured right now, otherwise he would be getting pushed hard for a spot.
I think Sami just needs some pressure to perform. Back when he did'nt have a guaranteed spot and we had Waqar, Wasim and the rest he bowled better.
But I'm sure he will be just fine. Not only is Sami quick, he has a lot of heart. That's half the battle.
i don't ever rememeber seeing sami flourish since he's made his debut for pak in both forms of da' game? he's always had a "odd good test match" or a "odd good odi" but never repeated his performance. he has always been inconsistent and still is.
phir aa jati hai purani baat of having no competition around warna why someone would pick sami over and over and over again is past me.
like in england's lineup we have simon jones, hoggie, harmi', anderson, goughie, now wharf etc and if one of them is inconsistent for arguments sake, then Fetch' will drop him and replace him.. this kind of competition after the mid 90's doesn't exist in pakistan's bowling department anymore.
Sami needs a bowling coach.
He is a great talent but is going no where..He tries a bit to hard on his speed which is not necessary, especially, when you have the world's fastest bowler bowling from the other end. He needs to concentrate on swing and seam. Some bowlers need guidance all the time...Like Aqib Jawaid's success has alot to do with Imran Khan's presence.

I would call him lucky if he had to fight for a spot on the roster. That way his game will improve. True Sami hasn't been bringing his A game to the field lately but he was never a great bowler in the first place.

I don't know about that man. While it does'nt seem these days like he's something speacial, don't for get it was'nt all that long ago that the guy was being hailed as a phenom. He tore through New Zealand and I think he had a hat trick or two as well.
Granted he's never brought it on a consistent basis, but the potential has always been there.
His last few series this year weren't too bad. He may be out of form right now, but I'm sure he'll be back to his oldself of taking regular wickets, insha'Allah.
Also, it's quite natural for Sami to concede a few too many runs. I don't think he has ever had this problem under control. Nonetheless, he often takes good wickets and therefore should be retained in the team.
I feel quite often we compare Sami to Akhtar. IMHO, we've got to keep in mind that Sami and Akhtar bowl differently and there is only little room to compare the two.
i dont think hes concentrating on speed at all... he's bowling in the mid 80's... i remember he hurled the 3rd fastest delivery down the pitch a year or two ago or something... it was like 96mph... so i dont think he's going for speed... i read that BW said that sami is really emotional and when he doesn't take wickets he takes it really hard.... im guessing its more mental than anything because he's a a phenomenol talent...
I don't have much faith in Sami unless he gets some serious coaching. Sami has expressed his passion for speed in past and I believe thats what he has focussed more in past, if that doesn't change he won't last long and will be smacked around even by Zimbabwe as speed doesn't last too long, the variety/swing does.
I ahave never been a big fan of Sami. He has only few good game and most of the times he has been very ordinary. I have always thought of him as an overrated and overhyped player. Pakistan has a lot of up and coming young fast bowlers and if Sami doesnt improve and get better, I think he will be gone and forgotten.
Sami is the best young prospect ever since Akhtar burst on the scene against SA. He's not in good form, it happens. Remember the NZ tour when Akhtar was injured?

*Smoothie bhai, didn't you once say Sami was better than Shoaib Akhtar ? :D They have been equally ordinary this year. I miss Wasim Akram at times. People, That Is All.*
jigar, the thing is (as I see it) that we now have mediocre pacers. The glorious days of 2Ws are gone. Shoaib seemed to be dragging their lagacy while bowling with them in their last three years. But after WC03, I can recall one test and hardly two ODIs where he was devastating. Otherwise he was just ordinary...say another Vaas or Zahir.
Having said that Akhtar was going through a real bad phase, which I hope is over. Let see him more in next two games of this Cup. I mainly have complaint about his attitude, as he is Great Khan or 2Ws. Which he is not. Atleast Sami has a positive mindset for the game. Akhtar often doesn't look serious about his career or passion to win the game for the team.
Sami too, did perform in few matches this year, taking either early wicket or some imp ones in the middle or at the end. But he is not consistant either. Right now he is going through a very rough time. But the thing that is bothering me is that he tries really hard and bowls his heart out to get wicket on every delivery. But unfortunately, his passion and fire is not working. He looks flat at times like Srinaath, while Shabbir and Naveed moving the ball like crazy, these two seem to be flat. That is my question, what is wrong ?
may be deep inside we are still living in those glorious days of complete dominance in fast bowling and expecting these two novice to deliver the goods as 2Ws and KHAN did. May be its too much for them! who knows.
