I get the point, every child is born a muslim. If my hypothetical children were orphaned, I’d rather they grew up as orphaned muslims than adopted non-muslims.

I don’t see what’s sad with that. I think Angeline Jolie adopted a muslim kid from Africa, it’s sad that the kid having lost his parents will now be a non-muslim.

You assume the unadopted muslim kid would practice Islam if left unadopted (on what pretext do you assume this?) You also assume the adopted muslim will become nonpracticing if adopted by non-muslims.

To want to leave your child unadopted for fear of the child losing his/her religion is convoluted. If you, as a parent have “taught your kid well enough”, then the child practicing Islam shouldn’t be a matter of concern. If it is, you’ve obviously not done your job pal.
