Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

I don't watch soap operas -- I just read more of nadz123's saga and my need for melodrama is fully sated...;)

Why give this ridiculous request any response at all?

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

The important thing is that your husband understands that you can't send your daugther as your dad is unwell. As for whether or not they'll attempt brainwashing him....you have no control over that. To maybe help prevent your husband from developing ill feelings toward you.....you can maintain positive communication with his family and as I suggested earlier send some gifts as it shows consideration. Let him SEE positive behavior from you....it will only make his parents' resentment stick out like a sore thumb. Set yourself apart from them by behaving in a composed and more mature fasion.

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

Oh dear, I think that train left the station some time back. :-/

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

That's totally unreasonable. I would think it's simply to stress you more. I would suggest you calmly talk to your husband. Explain to him that you can't let your 1year old travel with your dad, who isn't feeling well, plus that it totally doesn't make sense what a 1 year old would do at a wedding. If he fails to understand your side here, he's an ***. Leave Him. Period.

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

Throw the entire onus on your dad. Tell your dad to handle it, after all your saas is your dad's sister. If your dad tells her clearly that he cannot and WILL not bring a baby along cos he just cannot handle that, that will be the end of that

Re: same problem i feared, happening now…

you know they are pathans right?? every f’ed up thing doesn’t have to be punjabi…

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

Thts a nice idea demesne :)

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

why does she keep saying MIL, just say aunt. so much less evil and huggable <3 <3

Re: same problem i feared, happening now…

Really? I thought she was a Punjabi. Chill…I’m Punjabi as well…and I personally DO find the Punjabi accent in the Urdu off-putting. Yes, I know that there are exceptions…but whenever I’ve heard it, I don’t care for it. Not everything needs to be turned into a personal battle.

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

Thanks. Simplest way really. Especially since her MIL is her Dad's sister.

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

NO i think its a bonga idea

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

U are just a bonga rejected tharki buddha. Chup kar!

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

I dont think her family is punjabi. And its kinda offensive that you just did punjabi=paindu! tsk tsk

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

Err...no. When I said "paindu" , it was referring to the foolish persistence of her in-laws. The Punjabi accent in Urdu....not too crazy about it. Also, accent is one aspect of a culture....whereas by saying "punjabi=paindu"...you've labeled the whole group and that could be perceived as even more offensive. And you're putting words in my mouth, which is also offensive. Tsk tsk. Heck I don't like Southern accents either...especially strong ones....but my feelings about one thing doesn't define the individual of that culture as a whole.

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

^yeah sure u were ;)

Re: same problem i feared, happening now…

Quit winking at me, paindu. :snooty:

Re: same problem i feared, happening now…

I’m going to be anal here and say why the hell should a Punjabi person be expected to talk in a perfect Urdu accent?
If its not your native language then why must you be expected to speak it perfectly?
You don’t see the people whining about Goras trying to speak Urdu or Punjabi for that matter.
Its always when someone from our side, as in Desis, tries to speak another language…
They get shot down before they can say Tere Pehn Di…

I mean whats up with that?

Re: same problem i feared, happening now…

And what is a perfect Urdu accent? I never said that Urdu should be spoken a certain way. What is a perfect English accent for that matter? Heck a person can speak a language in a grammatically perfect way…but in an accent that one may not be not too fond of. Go anal if you wish. "Tis a matter of personal preference.

Re: same problem i feared, happening now...

A lot of Indians say Fool instead of Phool (For flowers). This is an example of imperfect Urdu accent.
A lot of Arabs say Bebsi instead of Pepsi (For umm Pepsi). This is an example of imperfect English accent.
A lot of Punjabis have that tinge of Punjabi in their Urdu sentences. This is an example of imperfect Urdu accent.

In all cases, I don't give a toss and find them all excusable because its not their native tongue.

Don't sweat it Velvet Bro, I'm just being anal.
