Salt for sore throat?

I was googling remedies and read one where you are supposed to chirak some salt at the back of your throat and let it sit there until it dissolves. Has anyone ever tried it? If yes then does it work?

Yup it works!!!

Re: Salt for sore throat?

lol.. how do you chirak salt on to your throat? :O gag on an extra long salt shaker?

Re: Salt for sore throat?

Yes it works. A lot of doctors will recommend that as well, if you go in with a sore throat (provided it's not bacterial infection).

Take a glass of hot water, put about half a tea spoon of salt in and gargle. I use even less sometimes because even a little bit is effective.

Apparently my great grandfather used to do salt water gargles every morning and never got a throat infection.

Re: Salt for sore throat?

Yes, that is what I read and that is what I did and it worked like a charm. I wasn't talking about gargling with salt water. I meant actual salt (powdery form) on your throat. I chiraked it and let it dissolve and went to sleep and didn't have a sore throat the next morning!!!

Re: Salt for sore throat?

hey , you never chirak salt directly on any hurting parts of the body ! mix salt in warm water and then do gargles , that should provide you relief ..

Also , if its non stop cough thats causing this , I normally eat alot of black pepper and that too helps relieve the sore throat .. you can sprinkle lot of black pepper on half tsp honey and eat it slowly so that the pepper touches the throat .. and dont eat/drink anything for the next half hour .. do this a few times and you will notice that the cough will subside slowly ..
