Salmon

so hubby’s in the mood for some salmon, so he’s asked me to pick up some pieces from the grocery store.

i’ve never actually made salmon before, so i don’t know the proper way of seasoning it.

any suggestions that you guys might have? i think it’s mostly just olive oil, salt and pepper? or is there something else you would add to the seasoning to make it taste better?

also, how long is it recommended to keep the seasoning on the salmon before you cook it? will a couple of hours be enough, or should it be overnight?

thanks for your help!

Re: Salmon

light butter, salt, pepper and a bit of oregano should do. put the seasoning atleast 30 min before (1 hours is better). My wife also add little dried dill and pine nuts when its almost done ...

cook it on high heat and if you have that thick base cast iron pan, thats the best pan to use.

Re: Salmon

Other than the usual olive oil, salt, and pepper, I also add some garlic (paste), parsley, and some freshly squeezed lemon juice. Marinate for half an hour to an hour, and then grill or bake.

Re: Salmon

thanks D6C! have you ever baked the salmon? which comes out better..baked or fried?

Re: Salmon

  • Fry a bit in frying pan with very little oil
  • Use salt and black pepper
  • Turn down the heat and cover with lid
  • Let it get soft
  • Should be good to go in like 15 mins or less

Re: Salmon

I cannot grasp how grizzly bears catch...taste...and eat salmons alive...hmmmmmmmm

Olive oil, salt and pepper ( lemon juice too sometimes)

Baking it is a healthier option obviously but I think the fried ones taste better. In all honesty, you can fry just about anything and it will taste good ;)

Re: Salmon

Put some salt, pepper, lemon juice, garlic on the salmon and leave it to rest for 30-40 minutes before placing it in the oven.

Re: Salmon

In addition, you can add a little bit of mustard paste as well while marinating. It adds that zing to the baked salmon.

Re: Salmon

thanks for all your help guys!

i ended up buying two seperate salmon steak pieces. went home and marinated it with salt, pepper, ginger, garlic, lemon juice and a little butter.

left it for about an hour and a half, and then baked it in the oven for 15-20 mins.

i didn't eat any, but hubby said it tasted yummy :p

Re: Salmon

I use a seafood seasoning and salmon seasoning, mix a couple of teaspoons of each together, with some black pepper, paprika, lemon juice and olive oil. Marinate and then bake. Yum!
