i agree completely. people who are rejoicing his death among my family and friends do not believe him to be blasphemous (the real motive behind his killing) but rejoice nonetheless for reasons such as he was 'corrupt' 'immoral' 'drunkard' 'atheist' 'womaniser' etc etc basically he was made a scapegoat in venting all the frustrations ppl have been harbouring against this govt. otherwise might as well kill 90 % of the politicians in pakistan then for similar reasons
This is what I think. Less to do with a person or even the law and more to do with negative sentiments towards the govt.
If you want educated ppl to act educated. you got to present them with third option in such strong situations.
Which was not there. So I am not surprised to see even educated pakistani tend to find fault with salman actions.
My thing is monk that it is unfair for us to call those people uneducated just because they support Qadri’s action. We don’t live the life of a common Pakistani so we cant feel the way they feel and if we cant then we cant judge them based on what they are feeling.
this attitude isnt just with religious killing.. I know people who feel completely okay with giving a high moral ground to an ethnic terrorist organization who they are claiming has killed fewer people than its rivals.
People have been supporting honor killings for long.
yeah.. we've always had a little bit of a meanstreak anyway. I guess this is an extension of honor killings. Perhaps those supporting the murder are also likely to support honour killings.
I literally did a sajda shukr when i realized no one I know in Pakistan or abroad harnessed the pro murder attitudes that is plaguing the minds of people in pakistan....!
I agree with you.. it’s this indifference which has led our society to this state. Those who give up their essential liberty to gain temporary peace deserve neither peace nor liberty. I have clicked a like for RIP Salman Taseer on facebook..

Even if all what you have stated about Taseer is true all these acts did not hurt anyone else except may be his own family. The guy had a lot of qualities as well.. he was known to take stands for whatever he felt was right in spite of all the odds:
1) He took a public stand against state persecution of Ahmadi community.
2) He took stand against controversial blasphemy laws.
3) He too stand for Kalabagh dam in spite of of his party's otherwise point of view.
4) Being in Governor house he was considered a business friendly guy. He was the only person in present PPP government with whom business people could relate because he used to take stand with them for energy issues/any other issue which hurts the business generation even against his own government.
True the family is a bit ultra liberal for Pakistani standards... but don't the liberal people have a right to live in Pakistan. I don't agree what TLK is saying that it has to do with economic situation of the people. It has to do with certain mind set which is intolerant and becomes violent when someone tends to disagree with them. The irony is these intolerant people do not even realize that something is wrong with this mindset.
Qari Haneef instigated Taseer’s killer Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: Police unearthed key facts which instigated Mumtaz Qadri into killing Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, a private TV channel reported on Friday.
According to police sources, the governor’s self-confessed killer, Mumtaz Qardi, revealed that he made up his mind to assassinate Salmaan Taseer in a religious gathering addressed by Qari Haneef in his locality, Col Yousuf Colony on December 31. Qari Haneef made an emotional speech which instigated Qadri into killing the governor, the police said. He participated in the gathering in official uniform and recited Naat having his official gun on his shoulder. The police has started a search for Qari Haneef to arrest him, the channel said.
Police arrested at least eight persons on Thursday late, whose SMSs were found in the mobile phone of Qadri. The names of arrested persons are being kept under wraps. These men incited Qadri into killing Taseer. They had alleged in their SMSs that Taseer had committed blasphemy. Also, the CPO had been asked to explain as to why Qadri’s name was included in the security squad of Salmaan Taseer, the channel reported.

Agreed both are essentially saying the same thing but you can also see the difference in class. Both called for a review of the law to ensure that it’s not misused and exploited by certain people but Imran Khan said it in a civilised manner. Taseer I am afraid did NOT. I hope you get my drift. It is not what you say but how you say these things in public that matters…still not a justification for killing someone. This was nothing but cold blooded murder, a QATL
Let’s not kid ourselves, Pakistan is a deeply conservative and intolerant society and in a country where 70% of the people are illiterate (and even the so-called ‘educated’ get all emotional by anything even remotely related to religion; case in point - The Rushdie affair, The Danish cartoon affair) and easily influenced by narrow-minded molvis, openly calling mullahs ‘jaahil (we all know the vast majority are), mein unhei jooton kee noke pe rakhta houn and referring to the blasphemy law as kaala qaanoon’ obviously was not going to go down too well with the masses or the conservative elements in media. Taseer should have chosen his words wisely and dealt with the nuisance (aka molvis) with tact
The largest sect of muslims in pakistan......their religious leaders have made it their motto 'shaan e mustafa'......and are the thekedaars of 'namoos-e-risaalat'......its something that distinguishes them from other sects..
and all of you who are surprised at the 'educated' pakistani people supporting the murderer.......its their religious belief (as twisted as it may be for some) that causes them to support the qadri guy..because the message by their religious leaders is something along these lines "Gustaakhe rasool ka saath denay wala bhi gustaake rasool hai'......'namoos e risaalat k liye jaan dengay bhi or lengay bhi'........stuff like this...
see this is unfair of us 'educated open minded over seas Pakistanis' that we think that all the Pakistanis living in Pakistan are either jahil or insensitive. Had we suffer the same oppression, inflation and corruption that they are suffering, whom to say that we would not be celebrating this murder also.
Its easy to judge people from back home when we have food in our fridges and luxury cars parked in our garages.
People who suffer injustice, should be even more acutely aware of injustice. An empty stomach doesn't make a cold heart.
Perhaps you should reconsider who your friends are? If one good thing has come out of this, its revealed the true face of a lot of people.
Oh yeah .. I was absolutely shocked to see some of my friends applauding and supporting this murder. Some of them are not religious by any definition, and do pretty much everything against the teachings of Rasool Allah (saw).

Salman taseer was a brave man.He was very honest in expressing his thoughts. He prefers the one day life of a lion.
He only says to amend Lawbut Fundamentilists do not have the ability to think & he was martyred in cold blood
When it comes to taking law into our own hands, violating and molesting it, our leaders provide excellent examples for us to follow. It is not really surprising that some people in Pakistan do approve of this act. We take pride in violating traffic laws, human rights, civil laws and eventually criminal laws.
