Salman Khan: Sometimes Shirtless, Never Sleepless

While contemporaries like Aamir Khan are busy making news for other things, bicep-man Salman Khan is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. But never mind allegations of beating up girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, or underworld links, the ‘shirtless’ actor isn’t too bothered.
‘‘I simply don’t care,’’claims Khan, in town to promote his latest film Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge. The actor (more generously called ‘reticent’, more often ‘rude’) doesn’t have much to say about his role except that it’s ‘‘one of the better ones so far”. But he does try to defend his reputation.
In between humming aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai and receiving non-stop calls on his mobile, Khan claims ‘‘I am not rude. Only, I don’t like talking to strangers.’’ As for his image, it doesn’t matter as it hasn’t affected his fan following. Though he adds, “frankly speaking, I am too scared to ask people about it.’’
Ask him what bill he fits, and he says, ‘‘I am not an out and out comedian nor am I a serious actor. I am somewhere in between. I am average. It is not modesty but honesty.’’ In fact, the actor is so satisfied with “what I have. It’s all destiny’’ that “even if my career goes down from here, it won’t affect me,’’ he shrugs.
