Salman Khan who has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder broke down after the verdict. According to TOI, the actor was shocked by the sentence, sat down on a chair he was given in court and broke into tears.
The court has convicted Salman in the 2002 hit and run case and he is likely to be taken to the Arthur Road Jail. Salman’s defence is currently seeking an order of the judgement so they can make a High Court appeal. The defence wants to make an appeal at the earliest as the High Court break will be out of session soon.
The actor who is surrounded by family and friends tilted his head downwards and stayed expressionless prior to breaking down on hearing Judge J W Deshpande’s final judgment.

Good, I'm glad! He ran over homeless people asleep on the footpath because he was driving drunk, killed a man in the process, tried to pawn it off saying his driver was behind the wheel and paid off witnesses to recant their statements...it's about time he pays for his deeds. I don't feel sad about it one bit.

That's true @khattichic (Although I can't help but feel sad .. Salman Khan fan here). The crimes he committed actually deserve a stricter verdict.
Drunk driving, hit and run, one person killed, another lost his leg, lying in court, trying to blame his poor driver.
I don't understand why they waited 13 YEARS though!

Its all about setting an example. I wonder there are how many deaths by hit and run and police don't even care to show up.

One can be a fan of his acting. He may have some talent there.
His philanthropy and other things he does are part of an image makeover since this incidence. It would have served him better had he turned himself in after that incident, instead of doing all the drama.
Its not over yet though. The appeals process will take a long time.
@Pisiform : setting an example..true...but then so what? Its not like they framed him for it.

Never liked him. He's always had a terrible reputation. It's just been swept away by his movie image and charity work (which he created when he was arrested after another case went sour).

I have very mixed feelings about this. On one side, i feel like what he did at that point in life, drunk driving and killing someone, he deserves what he got, even if it is so many years down the line. Then on the other hand, ever since that, he's kind of turned over a new leaf, has done some much humanitarian work, does charity (Being Human, his brand) and what not, that no i feel like everyone deserves a chance to start over. BUT again, he has to pay for what he did; killing someone is no small thing. I dunno, I've been trying to avoid watching this bit of news all day. :/

If an ordinary person can get prosecuted for killing people with or without intention, then I don't see what special immunity a Bollywood actor has. In fact it's good that he's going to jail, atleast he can raise some type of awareness that crap like this isn't forgiven in the eyes of law, regardless of who you are.

Not a fan of him. However, I do have sympathy for him and his family...cuz even if one deserves it...it's obviously a painful situation for everyone involved. I read comments from members of the Bwood industry and friends of Salman in support of him....and man...were some of them pretty dumb. More emotion than sense. :/
