Salman Butt, the banned former Pakistan captain, is hopeful PCB chairman Najam Sethi will “do for other players” what he is doing for Mohammad Amir, who is also serving a ban for spot-fixing.

Sethi had stated on several occasions previously that he is looking into getting the terms of Amir’s five-year ban reduced by the ICC, so that he can revive his international career at the earliest. The ICC is set to implement an amended anti-corruption code from June, which might facilitate a quicker return to cricket for players serving long-term bans.

“I wish what he [Sethi] is doing for Amir, he does for other players too,” Butt said on Saturday. “Pakistan needs Amir, and the other players.”

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

equality........ just because amir is great bowler everyone wants him to return. all 3 should be treated equally

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

two things:

He was the ringleader of this and at the same time the captain of the team, should have shown better leadership.

secondly Amir admitted to his crime while Salman even after his jail term was adamant that he had done nothing wrong. made a fool of the nation. Than accepted his wrong doing. Now he wants to come back. How can you trust him.

No we should not treat all of them the same. Butt should *never *be allowed back in the team.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

for me no one should return, it is sending bad message do bad get punishment n then make your come back

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

^ I agree, none of them should be back. They're all convicted criminals. Amir lied about his crime for as long as he could, and he only came clean when he realised that it's not going to take him anywhere. The 'young, naive and talented' excuse will not work with ICC. I don't see them reducing Amir's ban as it will set a really wrong precedent followed by Butt and Asif having a case against them.

Amir should complete his full ban, and only return based on his performance in domestic cricket. Najam Sethi should be more concerned about the fact that why in the meantime Pakistan has failed to produce (or find rather) bowlers nearly as effective as Amir and Asif, instead of begging to have Amir's ban reduced.

As with Butt, he should be permanently banned form speaking to the media. Odious little wretch.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

Shouldn't he rather be talking to Syed Noor to discuss his career?

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

All three, butt, asif , amir should not be allowed back in the team.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

He should come back as well and play as a opener

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

I have no time for people like Salman Butt but it is pertinent to mention here ICC’s double standards

BBC Sport - Danish Kaneria criticises ECB lifetime ban

Despite his 5 year professional ban, THE ECB has allowed Westfield to play club cricket in Essex this year

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

I agree with you in principle but it is not feasible with either Butt or Asif. Both received longer punishments (Butt was banned for 10 years, Asif for 7 years) and would be in their mid-30s when their ban ends.

In defence of Amir (although not a doodh peeta bacha at the time), this was his first offence and he did own up to his mistake soon (if not straight away) unlike the other two hat dharam and beghairat idiots who maintained their innocence and deceived everyone for almost 3 years.

Asif had previously been suspended (along with Actor) for taking banned substances as well but Salman Butt was the most culpable of the three. He encouraged the other two players to participate in a crime and abused his position as captain.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

Equally culpable are the jazabati and unscrupulous TV channels (GEO in particular) and their anchors who invite third-rate shameless people like Salman Butt to their talk shows

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

ok I got your point but don't you think amir not coming back should serve a message to all out there.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

^ Had Amir also been as adamant as Salman Butt he probably would've been fined for similar number of years, so there is a message :)

If ICC really wants to "convey the message" then it MUST take action against bookies, ANY and EVERY player whether he is from India, England or Australia and punish the same way.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

Amir was teenager at the time of spot fixing. Young mind was under ring leader's influence.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

^^He was a young boy, not a child. All three guys were dealing in pounds.. Nip the evil in the bud. I have a soft corner for amir, but It will send a wrong msg if PCB allows him to play once again.. We can afford defeats, but can not afford match fixing.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

he was 17 young enough to know wht is bad and good lets accept the fact money attracted him ;)

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

He is being allowed to play by ICC, not PCB. ICC has a lot more to fix then just spot-fixing by Pakistan.

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

dont trust the official age of Pakistani players.,..they all lie and lie by some margin!

just add 4-5 years to most of these players..and i have a lot of real data points, which i have shared on this website multiple times

misbah is an exception though

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

Age and PD :rotfl:

Re: Salman Butt wants Najam Sethi to care for him too - lol

I agree, people are treating him like a baby. He knew exactly what he was doing. ICC let him off, but that doesn't mean Pakistan has to embrace him with open arms. The onus is really on Pakistan to make example out of these players to send a clear message to the next generations of Pakistani cricketers. Don't turn into an issue of ego, interests and selflessness. An honest, committed and rigorous talent hunt will produce many more Amirs and Asif, there was cricket before Amir and there will be cricket after him as well. Can we just stop using 'talent' as an as excuse to forgive and forget every little crap in the dressing room and field to the biggest crime in sports?

A criminal record of any sort can easily kill all your chances of securing most ordinary clerical job with minimum wage, I see no reason why these globally disgraced criminal should be given another chance to represent the country on the highest level. Pakistan cricket might just slightly improve if all these players start treating playing international cricket privileged and honour, not as they damned right! Don't bring ICC into it, it's about Pakistan cricket. Out cricket has been haunted by match fixing controversies for so long to go back to its shadows by having him in the team.
