I love this line from Sallu below: *"Ijaz Butt deserves another medal from the ICC for naming the first team ever in Pakistan cricket history without a captain,” he remarked. *
Balanced team for T20 event, says Sallu
KARACHI: Former Test cricketer and chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed Sallu on Friday lauded the team selection for the World Twenty20 on Friday and said a balanced team has been selected for the mega event which is set to commence in the Caribbeas late next month.
Talking to Dawn, Sallu said the team named by chief selector Mohsin Khan is capable of defending the title in the West Indies.
“This is a balanced team indeed,” he said. “It is a wise move to recall all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez since he is a big utility player.
The presence of senior all-rounders Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi as well as Yasir Arafat give Pakistan lot of depth in batting as well as in bowling.
“The fast bowling department also looks good in presence of Aamir, Asif and Umar Gul,” he said.
Sallu, however, was critical of the fact that the outfit had been named prior to the appointment of a skipper.
**“Ijaz Butt deserves another medal from the ICC for naming the first team ever in Pakistan cricket history without a captain,” he remarked. **
“In my opinion, no better leader is there than Shahid Afridi for World T20 event since he is an aggressive leader of men and and his own performance improves when he is at the helm,” added Sallu.
Re: Sallu: Ijaz Butt deserves another medal from the ICC.....
the part at the end about afridi is strange. is it a good idea to consider him for captain so soon after the ball biting ban? I feel a new candidate should be considered
Sallu is an idiot himself and has all the credibility of a baingan in a thaali. he must be really happy that all other captaincy contenders are out and his pal Afridi looks like he'll be captain by default. making his fellow Karachiite the captain was his only goal when he was selector last time. seems like nothing has changed.
Ijaz Butt has taken some excellent steps of late. and for that he deserves to be praised.
well waleed, I didn't start following this game from 2007 like most Afridi fanboys. been following the game for a lot longer. even remember the cursed day when this unprofessional slogger/ schemer/politician/match fixer made his debut. who would have guessed that day that this slogger would become such a cancer for Pak cricket.
and I unfortunately remember the time when we had real players and real legends. so, yeah it is difficult for me to watch this unprofessional clown not only get away with his nonstop rubbish but also become the captain - even for t20.
I have a strong dislike for unprofessionalism regardless of who it comes from. but at least others like Akhtar, etc got their just desserts.... but this guy has 900 lives and he gets away with whatever he does. I'll celebrate the day when the curtain falls on his pathetic joke of a career.
Re: Sallu: Ijaz Butt deserves another medal from the ICC.....
hmm ok ur right but still that guy afridi played sensibly in semi n final of the last world cup .......n besides no body is perfect man .....no body is complete professional in his field

Samb, which crooked politition / kubza group do you belong to?
Ijaz butt had a hard time getting slecected himself (how many matches did he play? 3?4?) and now he is representing PCB??! guy is a sifarshi watan firosh, extremely self-serving kinda like those currupt polititions

butter saab, I belong to all crooked political parties and kabza groups except for JI and MQM...
btw, the two WORST PCB chiefs ever probably (Naseem Ashraf and Tauqeer Zia who was the poster child of bipolar disorder) were appointed by our beloved dictator Hazrat Musharraf rehmatullah - not some corrupt politician.
and since when did the number of times one played for Pakistan become the measure of one's suitability for becoming the PCB chief? Miandad, Qadir, Sarfraz Nawaz, Afridi, Yousuf, Younis, etc are/were all fine players... and selected for Pakistan many, many times. I wouldn't trust them to manage a grocery store - forget about the PCB.
the PCB doesn't need ex-players in management roles. the management roles require people with management degrees, people who have run and managed large organizations, people with MBAs, etc. if those people have some cricket background AND management experience/education like Rameez raja then that's ideal. but just because you've played for Pakistan a lot is no criterion to become PCB chief.
